I recently got a pair of Monitor 5's, and I don't know which series they are. From what I've gathered from the POLKSDA site, there are 5's, 5A's, 5B's, 5 Series 2's, 5 Jr's and 5 Jr+'s.

Mine have an 8" passive, so I know they're not Jr's. They also have sl2000's and a fuse on the back above the terminals. Do you need any more info to determine which ones they are? Thanks! :)

Pics would help, but they sound like early-mid production 5B's. IIRC, the later 5B's didn't have the fused tweeter protection circuits, but used polyswitches instead.

The Dead sound great through these vintage Monitors don't they?;) My Peerless 7A's will work Jerry's guitar through your entire body and soul, and not break a sweat doing it. Smooth sailing all the way.:D

You might want to start a new thread with this topic, instead of hijacking this fine gents thread.;)

Cheers to that!:D I think my favorite dead recording based purley on Jerry's guitar tone is Ladies and Gentleman from the Fillmore East April '71. The second solo on Morning Dew starts off so soft, but warm. It's one of my go to recordings when testing out new equipment.

I think I might have a bootleg of that show...I'm not sure. I've got so damn many of them, sometimes I can't remember what all I've got. I'll have to check it out.
