Jeff came down this weekend so I could help him Mod is XO's on his Minty Monitor 7B's. A few brews were consumed and some tunes listened to. The XO's turned out great and we a had a good time to boot. We also added some Vampire Binding posts while we were at it.

We used Sonicaps on the highs. Solens On the Lows. And mills resistors.

Let us know of the changes when you get a chance Jeff.

Nik

Any reason you didn't use the Sonicaps for both capacitors?

Just last year, I replaced the caps in my monitor 7's with Bennic caps. It was a huge improvement in sound. Now I'm salivating at movin up to the Sonicaps and wonder how much more difference they will provide?
Any ideas or experience on this?

NICE pics Nick. Thanks for starting this thread.

Nick spent his whole Sat. with me looking over his shoulder (beer breath and all)
firing away questions. I appreciate you helping me out. You did a great job and a very good learning experience for me. Plus....I got to hear some tubes this time. Somebody has a sweet **** amp coming their way.

Only wish I had time to dominate in some xbox 360.

I know they've only got about 20hrs on them....but I think they sound great already. Some improved bass for sure. I'll keep you posted.

I am in the process of doing the same, waiting on a replacement MW6500. I chose Daytons for this modification. Can anyone comment on their sound?

The Dayton's are much more neutral than the Solen's. Sonicaps are more revealing. Also look into the Clarity caps at madisound.

My experience with the Solen goes back to a re-cap on a pair of large Advents, I found them very bright in that application, and changed them out for the Daytons. I must say though that I probably did not give the proper hours of "burn in". Perhaps I will give them a second chance.

I also ordered the items below from Sonic Craft (cut and pasted from an old email....complete with 2010 pricing).

Thanks for resurrecting this old thread. Can't believe it was 7 yrs ago. Nik buddy if you're reading this..these babies are still singing. Thanks to Larry they will also be getting rings and tweeter brackets very soon. Thanks again Nik and Larry.

    Capacitors, Sonicap Gen 1 12µF / 200VDC... I need (2) at $20.45ea.
    Resistors, Mills 2.7 ohm, MRA-12 ............ I need (2) at $3.98ea.

    Binding Posts, Vampire BP1.5HEX.............. I need (2) at $14.35ea.
  • I am about to do the same to my 7B's. Did you not replace the 34uf cap? Anyone have an updated parts list. Not to mess with perfection just curious if there was anything more current. Do dayton caps compare to the Sonicap's? I would like to get all from parts express.

Has anyone actually measured the inductor values for the 7B?

No, they don't compare. Sonic Craft has everything you need and it's on sale right now. Before you order, confirm what you need by looking at the crossovers as Polk often made changes on the fly.

For the 7B with the 2.7 and 4.5 ohm resistors? No.
