Does anyone have any experience with the 12 guage speaker wire in the clear jacket from Monoprice.

http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10239&cs_id=1023901&p_id=2789&seq=1&format=1#largeimage

I will be using it for a fundraiser I am doing at the end of the month and for utility speaker wire after that.

TIA

Scott
I like speakers that are bigger than a small refrigerator but smaller than a big refrigerator:D

Hi Scott! Been using that cable for years. I don't really know crap about cables but have my LSi's on it now and sounds fine.

Monoprice sells quality stuff. I just got a bunch of cables delivered yesterday, including 250 ft of speaker wire and its good stuff.

    I bought a 100' reel of it 2 years ago; it's a great, bargain-priced wire.

I have the 12 gauge. It works ok I suppose and should be fine for your application. The one issue I do have with the wire, is that +/- are not marked very well, or rather, there aren't any real clear markings on either wire.

One side of the insulation around the conductors should have a ridge on the outside edge. I can't see it very well with my eyes, but is fairly easy to feel with your fingers. I believe the conductor with ridge should be designated as the negative side of the pair.

i use monoprice wire as well. Never had issues with it. I would say that stripping the wire could be easier than it is but overall it is good bargain wire.

I have a huge box of that for all my in-wall stuff and I totally agree. Pulls very well, too- no snags and the jacket is slippery enough that you can get it to slide around a few corners before the friction gets to be an issue.

I their 14 ga in the white jacket and never had a problem. By the way in the jacket the wires are solid red and black cn't make an error.

Look the same to me as generic 12 AWG copper stranded cables except for one being on a sale price. Maybe they're clearing out an older version. Could get 200 feet for the price of 100 feet. Still crap though.

The dialectic properties of that clear coat is not good and will turn the copper (if that's what it is) green, sooner than later.

I had that clear coat Monoprice stuff in the bedroom HT. turned green in a couple years. The in-wall I have going to the surrounds is still good over 15 years.

The Monoprice and Amazon basic are not bad entry wire. If you're serious about audio then just look for some Canare 4S11 and be done with it

Yes Furez is a good choice too.

Once going above the entry stuff $$$ is the limit. I like to stay within $1-2 a foot.

No one buys an amplifier by the price per watt, so why people buy speaker cable by the price per foot boggles the mind.

Sure some speaker cable is sold by the foot for the DIY types, but the price should be judged by the total length required.

Let's say I need 8 foot runs, so the cost total is for 16 feet. Breaking it down to the cost per foot is silly.

I DIY all my speaker cables that is why I price it by the foot. If I was buying a 8' cable I would look at the cost of the complete cable and not break it down the cost per foot.

It wasn't at all when he posted that. A few months or so earlier I had the same issues when trying to access his site.
Glad it's now back to working.
