Hi I am looking to replace my old 200 disc Sony CD player with a dececnt single disc model. I need to make some room in my component rack for the future and would like a smaller player to put in its place. I have an old Sony DVD/SACD player DVP-NS775 that I could substitute in its place if need be. Without spending too much is their a player out there I should look into?

yeah I have been looking in Audiogon and ebay and have not seen anything that catches my eye, I just ordered 2 sets of Isonodes, one for blu-ray and one for whatever CD player I decide on. I think I will just keep the SACD player and give it a shot.

How much is not too much? :D

Also, do you plan on hooking your CD player to your AVR via digital or analog connections? Or do you care?

If you are digitally connecting your player to your AVR and letting the AVR do the Digital to Analog conversions (DACs) and you like the sound from your AVR's DACs then use your Sony DVD/SACD as the digital transport for CDs and keep your green in your wallet.

If you are nit picky about sound quality, then you may want to connect your player via analog interconnects to your AVR and get a player with superior DACs so that you can keep that nice analog signal all the way thru your AVR to your speakers.

One thing you may want to try first is to connect your Sony DVD/SACD player to your AVR with both a digital connection AND analog at the same time and then switch back and forth between the two to see if you notice, or care, about any sound quality difference.

If you can, and you prefer the analog sound from the Sony then keep it that way.

Beware though, that you will be infected with upgraditis and will now spend countless hours scouring internet forums, audio catalogs for tweaks and upgrades to your system and will spend sleepless hours pondering system changes in pursuit of sonic perfection....:D;):)

H9: If you don't trust what you are hearing, then maybe you need to be less invested in a hobby which all the pleasure comes from listening to music.

As Erik said "how much is too much"?;)

Yeah, why not try the 775 and see how you like it compared to your Sony changer?

    Otherwise, consider an external DAC.
