Can someone do this? I have a bid on ebay, but now wish to retract not my normal self. I will need to resold this, so to turn over since I don't wish to have now. Would that burn me now or later?

simply ask the seller to cancel your bid. I have had to do this a couple times. It will not leave any mark against you. If the seller does not do so, then you are stuck unfortunately.

eBAY page on the "rules" of retracing a bid

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/buy/bid-retract.html

    good luck.....

    I pasted the page below:

Under what conditions can I retract a bid?
How long do I have to retract a bid?
    What if I can’t retract a bid?
    The fine print

As a general rule, you can’t retract or cancel a bid. Once you place a bid, you agree to pay for the item if you’re the winning bidder. However, honest mistakes sometimes occur. Review the conditions and time restrictions and if you feel you have a valid reason for retracting a bid, fill out a Bid Retraction form. To retract a best offer, use the Best Offer Cancellation form.

Under what conditions can I retract a bid?
Whether you can retract a bid depends on the circumstances and timing of the bid. You can retract a bid for the following reasons:

You accidentally entered the wrong bid amount due to a typographical error. For instance, you bid $99.50 instead of $9.95. If this occurs, you must reenter the correct bid amount immediately after you retract your bid. Changing your mind is not a typographical error.

The item’s description changed significantly after you entered your last bid. For instance, the seller updated details about the item’s features or condition.

You can’t reach the seller by telephone or email.

How long do I have to retract a bid?
If you meet any of the above conditions, consult the following table to determine if you meet the time restrictions for retracting the bid.

Time restrictions for retracting a bid
    Auction ending time
    Retraction allowed?
    Result

Auction ends in more than 12 hours
    Yes

When you retract the bid, we remove all bids you placed on the item. If you are correcting a bidding error, you must bid again.

Auction ends in less than 12 hours
Yes, but only if you retract the bid within one hour of placing it
When you retract the bid, we remove only your most recent bid. Bids you placed prior to the last 12 hours of the listing are not removed.

    What if I can’t retract a bid?
If you can’t retract a bid, you can contact the seller to request that your bid be canceled. The decision to cancel a bid is up to the seller.

    The fine print
Please remember that every bid is binding, unless the item is listed in a category covered by the Non-Binding Bid policy or the sale is prohibited by law or by our User Agreement. Bidding on multiple identical items should be done only if you intend to buy all of the items.

Your bids affect how other users bid for an item and the item’s final selling price. We carefully investigate all bid retractions to determine whether they are appropriate and conform to the rules for buyers. Abuse of bid retractions can result in the suspension of your account. In addition, your total number of bid retractions in the past 12 months is displayed in your Feedback Profile.

Bids retracted within the last 24 hours of a listing can be viewed as an example of shill bidding, which is a serious violation of eBay policy.

You cannot retract a purchase made through a Buy It Now listing. Once you confirm your purchase, you are obligated to pay the seller.

If your bid was not much higher than the opening price, chances are, someone will out bid you. If you entered your final price as a bid, then retract it. Its not a big deal as long as you don't do it on a regular basis.

EDIT: I see now that the item is ending in only 9 hours. You might not be able to retract. I hope you didn't enter a bid much higher than the opening price. If so, you might be stuck with it.

I'd ask the seller to cancel your bid immediately. Chances are, someone else will come along and bid on it since it is somewhat desirable.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I did retract a couple bids, mostly because I wasn't paying attention to the details. I wrote the emails to the seller and explained myself, and so far they were very understanding and nice about it. One guy who sells vinyl plastic sleeves was even very cordial and left me positive feedback (I retracted after I won it). Obviously I rarely in this situation, and honest mistakes do occur.
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

same, I had to retract after some details came up that I didn't agree with. Wasn't too bad and the seller didn't really care, said it was fine and parted ways.

AFAIK, you can't cancel a bid if there is less than 24 hours left on the auction. If there is less than 24 hours, only the seller can cancel the bid for you. I haven't been on e-bay in awhile, but I recall this happening to me when I was selling something and a buyer wanted to retract.

EDIT: JUst read the page; you can't cancel the bid with lass than 12 hours left on the auction.

Ohh, I don't know. That's pretty close to the average they are selling for. Someone might outbid you, but it likely won't happen until the very end. Many bidders wait to snipe at the end to avoid driving up the price.

    Yes that was it.... LOL

But seriuosly BillBillw stated I should have the old Marantz receiver checked out first. I initialized blow him off some, as I felt it was on the cheap end of Marantz. I later cleaned it up some, and was blown away on the new sound stage I heard, but this was after the bid I started so hence the problem.

I didn't look at the details of the retraction rules lately, but what if:
You bid and somebody outbids you, and you decide you're not going to bid again and that you are now no longer "on the hook" for that item (since somebody else now has the high bid) and you shop for something else.

Now that high bidder retracts their bid...Are you now "on the hook" again if you end up winning as the high bidder?

I guess worst case scenario(generally speaking-I know DJ has the issue resolved), if the seller has a return period, you could just ask the seller to not ship it and accept it back as a return and refund you thereby saving everybody shipping hassles. Of course I would expect that the would be buyer should cover any listing or relisting fees and any paypal fees incurred by the buyer, but that would be minimal considering.
