The top display port adapter will only get you video. Go with the below item (5969)...direct the sound on your Mac to feed out of your USB...then you have your Mac fully integratable (sound and video).

    PID 5969

I just got the above from Monoprice and a 15' HDMI and am running my MacBook Pro through the HDMI port in the front of my TX-SR607.

Best $36.75 I have spent in the past 12 months!!!

    DESCRIPTION:
"Here is the solution you've been waiting for. While Apple brings their latest line of computers to the cutting edge by introducing the Mini-DisplayPort, consumers who want to utilize their Mac's with their HDMI equipped HDTV's are forced to use separate audio and video connections. This can be especially troublesome if your TV doesn't have any analog audio inputs to accompany the HDMI. Our latest adapter utilizes the power of USB to combine the benefits of Mini-DisplayPort video with USB's digitally synthesized audio and combines them into a single, convenient HDMI signal.

This device is not Bidirectional. It can only connect a Mini-DisplayPort source to an HDMI display. It will not work in reverse."

Thanx for the reply. I went ahead an went with the cheaper alternative because my AVR does not have HDMI. Cool adapters though.

Now i just need to figure out how to archive all my DVD's. I'm tinkering with plex, ripit, vlc, and handbrake.

VLC: The best media player handsdown...I feel strongly about that one. I've never used it for DVD archive though

Handbrake: rocks...I actually use it quite frequently to convert DVD > BlackBerry/iPod Touch
