Got Screwed

Hey guys, after using eBay for a zillion years, a guy finally screwed me. Sent me a non-working printer and won't make good. Keeps wanting me to give the printer to FedEx for a "shipping claim." Refuses refund unless FedEX pays him. I talked to FedEx and there is little chance they will pay because there is no damage to the box or the printer. Plus after the unit is inspected, the process is to send it back to the creep who stiffed me to begin with. Then he'll have my money AND the printer. :(:( Every time FedEx comes for the printer I have refused to give it up.

I charged the guy back on me credit card but the bank found against me. Turns out the card I used was actually a debit card. The protections are apparently different. I'm only protected against fraudulent charges, not disputes over product quality or service.

By the time the stupid bank got around to telling me this, the time for any PayPal or eBay dispute had expired. D'oh :(:(

So now I'm trying to plot my next move. This really pi$$es me off. Any ideas?

Chris

What's his feedback like? How many and how many of those are positive? I mean of course you should leave negative feedback if he actually stiffed you.

How much was the printer? I know it sucks, but is it worth it to spend your time and money trying to resolve this? Sometimes you just get f$%#ed in life. I've been screwed once on ebay. It does suck! No doubts there.

Sorry to hear that. Debit cards are different but you have to read the disclosures on some of the credit cards out there too. Some only cover fraud if it's committed within 50 miles of the card users address. Always, always read the fine print.

In the future always use Ebay or Paypal to dispute anything on Ebay and the CC as a back up. Ebay's new fraud protection is much better than it used to be and definitely in the buyers favor. Had you gone the Ebay route you probably would have won.

bought an outlaw 750 on ebay once for $485 like 1.5 years ago. Actually it was $520 or so but the seller was decent enough to refund me the shipping cost. I thought it was all good and well.

I plugged the speakers in and buzzes were all over the place and after many switches and trials, I found that 4 of the outputs didn't even work. Contacted the seller. he agreed to give me back a refund.

I paid FedEx to come pick it up ($30) since I don't have a car and don't you even think about carrying that beast to the post office. to this day, i still havent seen the money. contacted paypal with the shipping proof and they said they couldn't do anything. they said he hadn't responded their inquiries either and have suspended his account. They said that if he ever put money into his account, they will confiscate that and give me my refund. they did give me $200 which was part of their insurance program of some sort.

To Ebay's credit (as much as it pains me to say something positive about Ebay) they offer full refund protection now, and it has saved me twice. IMO, they have gone a bit overboard and it's easier for the sellers to get screwed on a deal now. But the buyer has always been the target of unscrupulous sellers so I don;t mind the hoops I have to jump thru as a seller (like holding funds, etc). But now buyers can make outrageous claims and outright ruin perfectly good gear and it's on the seller to try and prove the buyer wrong.

Did you pay with PayPal or directly with a CC/Debit? If you used PayPal, and it hasn't been more than 45 days, you can still file a claim. To do that, you will have to send back the printer. PayPal usually finds with the buyer if you claim it is non working and send it back, regardless of any FedEx claim.
For rig details, see my profile. Nothing here anymore...

I've only bought two printers myself. The bad unit and then the one I replaced it with.

Did you actually call payPal and/or eBay about this? They may bend the rules a little to keep you as a happy customer. Ebay has gotten a little more sensitive to this kind of thing lately. You've obviously been working the issue and the clock just ran out.

    Worth a try.

Do they actually have a phone number? I'll have to log on and see. Might be worth a try.

Yes, but it's buried deep in the resolution center area. Since time has run out I would call and not e-mail, even though e-mail is another option
