Can you guys explain the sound characteristics of electrostatics compared to a planar? I've never heard a pair of stats but love the sound of my planars.
Thanks

I don't think you can put a sound on either to compare really, they both can sound similar. They obviously radiate from both sides, front/back. It's the way they were designed that makes them sound differant. I have MartinLogans early hybrid Sequels, I've listen to Maggies all my life. The transit responce on both are amazing and so is the almost perfect midrange, Maggies suffer from a lack of bass, my ML's have a 10" ported sub for each panel (though they still need help in the lower lows).
Both are extremely room sensitive and suffer no fools in the amp driving them, so lot's of parameters to fiddle with, it all comes down to what suits your room and what amp you have. You really should listen to a pair of well setup ML's if you can, they are a bit different with the 'curvalinear' panels as far as the soundstage goes.Thorens TD125MKII, SME3009,Shure V15/ Teac V-8000S, Denon DN-790R cass, Teac 3340 RtR decks, Onix CD2...Sumo Electra Plus pre>SAE A1001 amp>Martin Logan Summit's
