Just called Sonic Craft to order .5 ohm Mills resistors to bypass the polyswitches on these SDA-1B's,and the parts guy asked wether I wanted the 5 or 12 watt resistor..."um,uh,duh"...
What is the prefered value here?

12 watt in that position for sure.
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

The 5 watt will work with absolutely no problem. All of the original resistors used by Polk are rated at 5 watts. That said, there is nothing wrong with using the 12 watt resistors and most of us do.

Of note, Mills states that their 5 watt resistors have less inductance than their 12 watt versions.

Wha??..i'll just go with the 12 watt. This little fix is just to keep the 1B's on the road for now while I recover from the Adcom 5800 purchase.Still have to finish the Kenwd M2 upgrade and want to hear it hooked up again for comparison of what it sounded like before the polyswitch removal and against the GFA.
    Then it's a recap for the 1B's
So glad I finally discovered this weak link (polyswitch) in the system - it's made huge difference!

    Wha??..

    ....
The MRA-5 (5 watt power rating) exhibits even lower inductance than the MRA-12 due to its very compact size. It will handle overloads 5X its power rating (25 watts) for 5 seconds with operating voltages up to 500 VAC.

Why is the MRA-12 prefered over the 5 then?

Because it will handle 10 times its power rating making it less prone to overheating.

Bottom line, either will work perfectly.
