Help me finish my built-in system.
Hello everyone.
First of all, I want to say how GLAD I am that I found this place after searching high and low about what center channel speaker to go with my RCi system that I'm building.
I have bought a new home that has a basement that is not very functional. I am totally redoing the room and am also buying a new home-theater system for the room. So far I only have the speakers/surrounds
I have RC85i wall speakers for the front L/R
I have RC80i ceiling speakers from the rear L/R
My quandary was finding an acceptable built-in center channel speaker that wasn't going to break my bank. I don't want to spend the coin on the RTsc center channel speaker, so I have it narrowed down to whether I should get another set of RC85's in-walls or RC80s ceiling speakers. The RC80s are about $100 less than the RC85i's, but is it a serious faux-pas to put a round ceiling speaker in the wall? Especially when it'll be flanked with the rectangular in-wall speakers.
Regardless of which I choose, these speakers come in pairs and I only need one... Should I try to sell the other, or possibly install it a little further aft of the rear surrounds in the center, for a 6.1 experience?
My receivers are narrowed down to:
Sony STR-DN1000
Onkyo TX-SR606
Whew... So many questions, so little work-time

Well, as you probably already know the center channel does the majority of the work. I would buy the best one that you could afford. I just purchased the CSi a6 for an upgrade over a Cerwin Vega LS 6C and OMG is it an amazing difference. If you had to, I would go square speaker on its side to look like at least a center. I do not know if it is a faux pa, but remember it is your basement and who cares what others think, especially if it is a new home n u just moved in.
I used to be partial to Sony, and still am I guess for tv's and BD players. I had the STR-DG1000 and loved it. The new sony is a different beast though. I would go the AVSforum.com and see what others are saying. There are usually tons of posts on the different receivers out there.
Most people would say buy the best speakers you can and then upgrade your equipment later. Now i am really partial to Denon. I love th receiver I have now. It just blew away the STR-DG1000 I had.Sharp LC-80uq17u
