Fantastic site. I'm a newbie here, but have owned a pair of SDA 2.3's for years with Onkyo gear. Todays systems have moved to HT and am now attempting to utilize what I have to build a 7.1. Any suggestions are appreciated. Have matched up a CSiA6 as the appropriate center, next is selection of Onkyo receiver, Sub and Rears. Intrigued by the possibility of adding an amp to AVR as has been mention here.

    +1

But...the SDA's do make for some excellent HT speakers. Just be aware that none of the newer Onkyo AVR's are really going to be able to power those 2.3's very efficiently. You'd definitely be wanting to add an amp IMO.

If you're a 2 channel fan at heart though, you may never be happy with surround sound.;) I just got done disassembling my HT setup so I could focus purely on 2 channel...and I don't miss surround sound in the slightest bit.

In order to try to an address your actual questions....I'd suggest the Onkyo TX-SR707/807 AVR coupled with OWM5 as surround choices and a DSW PRO600 subwoofer.

The CSiA6 is a great center channel but feel an older CSi series center would be a better fit and cheaper. I'm thinking CSi40 but you could easily go vintage CS400i....or similar series. I'd keep the front stage close and run the surrounds loose. They're all efficient loudspeakers but go overboard when it comes to your main piece, the AVR or Receiver.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

Thanks all, these are great suggestions to move on. Sounds like, according to what I read here, Onkyo is not the choice to drive the 2.3's, if I piggyback an amp to assist the Onkyo 806 or 807 (both have pre-out I believe), any suggestions on amp. Can I use my existing A-809?

Isn't the A809 an integrated? Looking at Onkyo's integrated line-up, i'd suggest something with a bit more power. But try it, and if it sounds good, it sounds good. :)

I used an Onkyo Integra 504 on some SDA 2.3's for a while which sounded great but amps like Adcom are maybe a better choice for this type of speaker. Some others have more experience than I with amps and I'm sure they will chime in.

I have some 2.3's in a 5.1 ch set up and they're great. I had it going with an Onkyo 5.1 ch AVR but switched to all Rotel seperates and a Rotel 5.1 pre and it sounds much better.

I would consider RTA-11's or a similar tower for the rears over the 7400's... I run LSi15's for my surrounds and love them, but I am on the lookout for RTA towers to replace them.
