gents,

I have some monitor 10b's....when I bought them they had one SL-1000 which looks like it was aftermarket and one SL-2000 that fits correctly. I bought some old peerless and I just heard that they are not plug n play. Should I even attempt to retrofit these or should I just bail on the peerless and buy an SL-2000?

You should bail on the 2000's and get some RDO 194 tweets.

The Peerless tweeters used slightly different crossover values. The SL-2000 tweeters generally used a 2.0 ohm resistor in the high frequency signal path, whereas the Peerless tweets used a 2.7 and a 4.5. Due to that, they aren't really interchangeable.

The cutout is shaped a bit different as well, and would require modification to accommodate the Peerless tweets.

As Stubby mentioned, you should get the RD0-194-1's direct from Polk, at the number to the top right of this page.

The RD0's are a much improved, direct replacement for the SL-2000's. Mention that you're a Club Polk member for a discount that basically equals out to free shipping. IIRC, they end up costing about $48 each.

As far as sizes of Monitor Tweeters, I just measured them:
    Face plate measurements:
    SL1000: 114mm wide x 77mm high
    SL2000: 117mm wide x 85mm high
    Peerless: 114mm wide x 79mm high

I measured the cut-out on my Monitor 10b's (with SL1000's) and it measures
    117mm wide x 82mm high.
So the Peerless SHOULD fit, especially if you say you have one with a SL2000 tweeter, which is even taller.

MY vote would be to use the Peerless, if you are handy enough with a sodering iron to add the resistors, which will only cost a couple of bucks, and by all acounts I have read, sound the best of all the options. :D

The cutout would still have to be modified. There wouldn't be enough of an overhang from the tweeters to keep the cabinets air tight, which is a necessity, due to the passive radiator design.

Also, the crossover boards are different. You'd basically need to find a XO board from a pair of Peerless 7's to make it work. It would be a much bigger undertaking to put the Peerless tweeters in, when the RD0's will drop right in without any modification whatsoever.

You'd probably also be able to sell the two Peerless tweets and recoup most of the cost of the RD0's.

Last time I ordered, it was free shipping AND 20% off, which would be the $48 figure you noted. They will charge you tax on that, tho.

ok thanks guys...I notice that the SL-1000 wasn't a great fit...it never occurred to me the air seal might be broken...although when I push on the passive it does move the woofers. the SL-1000 basically looks like a peerless.

Well, we are chasing windmills until we know what size cutouts he has.
smcgov34: Some pictures would be helpful to answering your questions further.

Curt, Why would he put Mon 7 Crossovers in a Mon 10? I am also asking for myself, because I am debating between the Peerless and the RDO's...but that is another story..:D

    smcgov34: The SL1000 don't 'have a perfect fit' anyway.
Here is a picture of mine: (btw, the s/n of mine is "10B 130024")

IF your cutouts are the same size as mine, the Peerless fit much better:
(I think the cutouts were designed to fit them)

BTW, here is a picture of my crossover, to compare:

That was a typo, I meant Monitor 10 crossovers.
