RTi A9's worth it?

I know this question has been asked here before, I just wanted confirmation from people that are in the know.

I currently have RTi10's and have sound them to be ok for music (I listen to just about everything from rap, to country, to blues) and awesome for movies/tv. I've started a new job shortly before Christmas and am able to get RTi A9's for net $300 (assuming I can get around $500 CAN for my 10's). I feel that bi-amping my Yamaha and Emotiva XPA-3 will be more than enough power for the 9's. Only draw back is that I can't hear them first as they must be ordered and my store doesn't stock the 9's.

My questions are:

1) For a system that is 75% movies/tv/ps3 and 25% music (mp3 and vinyl), would the RTi A9's be a good fit?

2) Do you think trading RTi10's and $300-$400 is a reasonable trade to upgrade to the RTi A9's?

3) Am I right to assume that bi-amping my Yamaha and Emo XPA-3 would be enough power to open the 9's up? I have this setup for my RTi10's and it made a HUGE difference once I moved from just using the AVR.

Yes, get the a9's. No need to bi-amp, the Xpa-3 has enough power for them. My opinion is they are a big step up from the rti 10's.

agreed. They will provide an improvement and are great speakers. I also would say you don't need to bi amp but you can try it and see if you like it. I had an XPA-3 once hooked up and provided plenty of power to them.

    1. yes
    2. yes
    3. the XPA3 should be plenty by it's self. But you could try the bi-amp if you want.

I work for a Big Box Retailer (we have a store on Yonge and Dundas Square). I'm getting the deal through a staff purchase program.

The problem with this type of question it that the opinions you get are just that, opinions. You may or may not agree but you won't know until you've spent the money since an A/B comparison is not possible.

Since you find the RTi10 "awesome for movies/TV" and music is only 25% of your listening, are you going to pay $3-400 to possibly improve 25% of your listening experience? Maybe your movie/TV listening experience would be improved more by getting surrounds from the same series (RTi4 or RTi6) instead of the M20s.

It's your call and your money. Good luck.

The A series is good stuff, but I seriously doubt you'd hear enough difference to be worth the money. With 400 bucks there are probably better places to upgrade

I have new A9's and a used Adcom GFA-5500 driving them. Love it... But I don't know any better. They still have tons of room to go, and I have only scratched the surface.... Love them and way better than my smaller NHT's............ Miss them though, wish I would have kept them for rear speakers.......LOL

I have A9's. Take plenty of time to break them in slowly. 80 hrs. MIN. Woofer suspension really stiff. They just keep getting sweeter and sweeter. Using ROTEL pre and RROTEL RB-1090. Added DSW PRO 400 subs-( 2 ) . Killer set up for music or movies.l

Personally if I could trade my RTi-10s plus 400.00 for some A-9s I would do it as I have the amp to drive them.
