I did not know where to start this so here we are.

My test equipment list is growing.

In my posession:

1 HP204D Oscillator
1 HP 400EL volt meter.

my first test wil be the response, across the band of 10-110Hz, of my SV101 subsonic filter.

If needed I have access to an O-scope, spectrum analyzer, SWR meter and Volt/Ohm meter.

I need a few more tools to complete a damn good bench and I'll get there. Suggestions are welcomed here!;)

You most definetly need a small refrigerator to plug in NEAR your test bench or testing area, and fill it up with Beer and Gardetto's Snack Mix.

I have no affiliation with Gardetto's, but cannot say the same about the beer.

It is probably all that RF you have been exposed to over the years....

OK, I won't add anymore useless knowledge.

Test equipment...hmmmm....I have no idea. Good luck! :)

Just remember Henry, its 'watts continuous', not 'watts rms'.

Now he needs to add an oscilloscope and a spectrum analyzer. HP makes both, but I would go with fluke for an oscilloscope. Also might need a counter for frequency too.

    Just my two cents

I think a nice signal generator would be wanted. A little more accurate and more versatile than a test CD.

If I remember right the 204D is an AC(sinewave) signal Generator that goes up to at least 10MHz. Amplitude should not be more than 5 Vrms, maxed out, if I remember right. I haven't calibrated one in awhile.

There are others that will give you a square, sine, triangle, and positive/negative pulses if needed. WAVETEK and HP comes to mind should be able to find one. Depends on what/how you use it to induce a signal other than for troubleshooting.

Since I am only a technician, and not an engineer I can only relate so much.

    Just another two cents.

Hey H, check the net for used equipment. I just about bought a decent used scope a few years ago, but the "want" factor was much stronger than the "need" factor, so I couldn't justify the investment. I was going to pick up a signal generator as well.. not as much money. I'd also call the local school districts, community colleges, etc, and see what the deal is on their used equipment. The stuff I used in high school wasn't that much different quality than the stuff I used at the Plasma Wave Space Physics Group.

You can save a load of dough over new. There are electronic-hobby forums just like there are audio forums, with guys buying/selling/collecting all sorts of bench equipment.

    I'll second Burdette.

    www.testequity.com

Nice selection of used/recon'd equipment of all makes, new stuff as well.

Tektronics makes some nice scopes and generators also and at a fraction of the price of HP, Agilent, whoever they are this week.

Tour, A really close friend and guy I work with has a handfull of these and I talked to him about buying 1 from him... If you need any tubes tested let me know. He is retired Motorola and the King of Tubes!!!

Mark, A scope is definetly on the need list because I want one ;) not because I need 1 if ya know what I mean.

Gidrah, you have a link for a gainclone? never heard of 1 before now.

    Nice DIY forum.

What happened to the other 10 links I sent you. Maybe my E-mail is having problems Russ won't reply either.

I snagged a picture of Kurt Chang's gainclone he had at the Midwest Audiofest from AA. I use it for my computer wallpaper.

I'll probably order one of these kits next week.

Ya gotta love a place called "Oscilloscope Depot"... only on the Internet.. which is where I've also found sites called thebestdishwasher.com, thebestlawnmower.com, etc.

I found these with a simple "used oscilloscope" search on Google.. after, of course, once again forgetting how to spell oscilloscope. I swear it took me ten years to remember how to spell restaurant.
