Doc et al.,
Not sure if you like or have the movie "Soldier" with Kurt Russell, but I liked this one and finally bought it at Wal-Mart for $5.88! I just started watching it and thought I would pass on some preliminary thoughts on sight and sound...
The picture is excellent for an older transfer like this one (1998), and the sound? Well, listen to this from the DVD Review site...
"Soldier" contains a very well produced 5.1 channel soundtrack. As you would expect from an action movie of this time and age, the soundtrack has very good spatial integration, making good and aggressive use of the split surrounds. It also has very good bass extension below 25Hz and especially during the heated battle scenes, this should give your subwoofer quite a bit of work to handle."
Thought you bass maniacs out there would like to literally hear about this one, in case you never saw the movie or don't yet have it on DVD. For $5.88, ya can't really lose, unless you already saw it at the theater and hated it.

Soldier has been on z-man's hit parade for a few years! A great movie, not high-art mind you, just a lot of fun...and carnage!!

I'l check it out, thanks for the tip.
Want another "best unexpectedly kick **** explosion" DVD? Red Dragon. When the house blows, Mother Of God hang on - the mixing engineers had a ball with this one. Holy Crap.
Have you ever run an FR sweep on your Infinity? Are you sure it can play down to 25 Hz solid? Most shoot em up explosions occur in the 35-45 Hz region.

Nope - I haven't run a sweep but can guarantee you that it won't hit 25Hz solid. The Infinity specs say 30Hz as the low end of the range. But, I am considering replacing the sub if my brother decides to buy my older HT system, which will include the Infinity sub - if he does, I'll be putting the $500-600 toward an SVS 20-39 PC+. That ought to round out my system nicely, huh?Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

Kev - I mis read your post! I didn't realize you were quoting another review! I thought you were stating from personal experience and I said hmm......
Yes, the 20-39 PC+ is one **** whompin sub that'll do 25 Hz no sweat. In fact, mine PEAKS at 23 Hz in the stock tune.
I'll be picking that up tonight at BB or CC when I get Catch Me If You Can. Great tip for $6.

Btw, there are a LOT of other $5.88 DVD's at Wal-Mart as well, including Altered States and (don't laugh) The Poseidon Adventure (hey, I grew up on that one and the picture at least, is VERY good!). I also picked up Iron Eagle for $5.88.Mains: polkaudio RTi70's (bi-wired)

I picked up like 8 or 9 DVD's for 5.88 each at walmart. Too bad you have to dig through that enormous cluttered bin to find them.
