My week with 40-50 inches of snow. Part I

Ok. Since it is 12:30 and too late to call and bit%# to anyone here goes.

My great week with the snow.

My truck having bald tires and no real money to get news ones I call a close friend that has the same truck. He has aftermarket rims on his. I get his almost brand new factory wheel/tire combo. Thanks Stan !!! This is the only good part of this story.

Blizzard hits and I lose a center cap to the wheel. $40 on E-Bay.

I have to work this entire week. Can't call out.

Drive to and fro taking people to there job. Thats what friends do that have 4x4.

My roof decides to freeze. The rainspouts freeze as well. There is no place for the "melting" water to go. The water then decides to go in my house ( as if there wasn't enough outside) I am awoke by severe drips in my bedroom. At this point I haven't a clue where it iscoming from. I decide to attempt to tape my brand new windows ooutside. Still leaks. I then go to several neighbors in aprox. 20 + inches of snow and try to get a ladder. No dice. After 30 min plus of walking in snow I can't walk in I decide to go to the Home Depot. I am shocked at the price of ladders and pay $160 to get on that reaches my roof. Come home and destroy my bushes to get the ladder up. Finally get it up there and chisel away the ice. Since the ice is over 5 inches it takes some rather hefty wacks. I destroy several shingles in the process ( knew I would ) Finally I get a passage for the water. Day 2 it freezes again and more leakes. So I go to the Home Depot again. I get a brand new 75' medium duty garden house. I then hook it to the downstairs sink and shot hot water at the rain spouts. Life is good. No leaking.

Another storm of 20 inches hits again. Same thing with the leaking. Only this time I have been at work for 14 hrs ( NO OVERTIME - cheap mayor ). When I come home tonight guess what. Puddles of water on my bed. Ok get the house out. Mind you, the house is 75' long and inside a house is rather difficult to manage when you cant even get the front door open from snow. Get the hose unraveled. There ar aprox. 75 kinks in ( probably on for every f-in foot ) Get some of the kinks out and turn the water on that is going through the house. Get outside and no water. Get more kinks out for 20 minuites. Go outside and start shooting hot water at the rain spouts. No pressure. Not in a hurry thinking it was one of many kinks in the house. NOPE. THE BRAND NEW HOSE BURST INSIDE THE HOUSE FOR 15 SEC. I run to go turn the water off. FALL. Get the water off. My 52" Samsung drenched, Polk RT12's - water everywhere. In my haste to get the house up I stratch my stanless fridge. The downstairs get soaked. An extremly rare and autographed racing print gets wet. My autographed diecast models get wet. My new plush leather theater seats are drenched. All without fixing the problem.

Just went out and chishled more ice of to keep the water flowing.

Hopefully this is it. Aprox. $200 in hoses, ladders and acc.

Sorry for the bit%&ing.

I HATE SNOW. Suppose to get more on Monday. I can't take this anymore.

Dang bro, I hope it gets better. I was just looking at some of the pics from MSN and am blown away. Yeah I heard about it, but did'nt know it was that bad. So much has fallen and it is making a mess out there.

On another note, I hope all your electronics are good bro. Hopefully it will be over soon.

Ouch man that's rough. Any chance of homeowners insurance covering any of the damage? Hopefully your racing print dries out ok. I'd want to take that hose back to home depot and strangle someone with it, even though they didn't make it lol.

Man Tony that sounds like something that would happen to me. I also have the ice built up in the gutters and I am sure I am in for some torn off gutters. No leaks that i know off yet though at my house.

    Good luck

Up early today with the sounds of dripping water. Oustide with the ladder again this morning. Chipping sharp pieces of ice in my face and down my shirt. It appears this will be a 2-3 time daily event for the next few weeks.

Polks and TV are OK. Fridge still scratched. Print dried out, minor waves in it now.

Im in the Perry Hall area Rabbit.

    Joy.

OK no more bit$%ing. I think I got it out of my system.

I would notify your homeowner insurance company. Keep good record of your purchases and times spending to mitigate the situation because the company is likely to reimburse you for those.

Wow man what a nightmare. I hope atleast your homeowners insurance covers the damage. After hearing this I think I'll stop bitching about the snow and just be thankful.

Why not just shoot the ice out of the gutters from the ground?

You could also get some water softener pellets and after you chip the ice out, toss handfuls on top. They last much longer than salt and are also cheap...it's a northern secret.

Bad week for sure, hope it gets better for you.

BTW I think a pipe heater tape may work in keeping the gutters clear. You would need to be in a GFI outlet as you playing with water, just to be safe.

I went to Home Depot to get the wire warmer and they didn't have them. My father has one and he even said that he hasen't seen one for sale in a while.

For now the chipping has solved the problem but I keep having to do one it melts and freezes again.

Disney thanks for the GFI mention, I would not have thought of that. If I do find one I'll be sure to plug it in to one.
