We just adopted a second dog, a 1.5 year old purebred Yorkshire Terrier. She's had a pretty rough life, that is, up until now. We adopted her from http://www.heartsforhounds.com, a small dog rescue.

She was found wandering the streets of the neighboring City of Westminster, pregnant. The pound picked her up, aborted her pups and fixed her, that's when H4H got a hold of her and got her all fixed up. We've had her since Sunday and she has a most amazing personality and gets along with our Schnoxie (Truffles) perfectly. She's still a bit skittish but figure with time and love that will disappear.

Why do you say that? She exhibits absolutely no indications of biting, at all.

Ron and family, congrats on the new member! (I can't see the pic as it's blocked by work) The second best thig we did was adopting Rudy, our second dog, the best thing was adopting Willow! If I had the time and space I'd adopt another one. Again congrats! I'm sure after reading the other posts that this one is a very cute one.

Thanks everyone, she really is doing well. She's on quite a bit of different meds right now due to worms, an ear infection and some antibiotics but overall she is in great spirits and very playful.

I really like a dog that will bite! It shows that they have a sense of self, particularly when you are developing & cementing a close relationship. My experience with dogs is that the really good ones require/desire close relationships, just like good people.

Once the relationship established, it will give you a "love bite." Not really a bite, but it will just grab you with its mouth, "saying", Hey stop that!

My aunt and uncle had a dog, named Skeeter, that was so devoted to them that if it perceived either receiving any physical harm from you it would bite to kill. Thank goodness it was a small dog! If either of the two were play slapping at each other (no sides to be taken in the dog's eyes), then it would literally insert itself between the two and try to physically block the two with its body by stretching out. A very cool dog!

    Your new pup looks gorgeous!

My pooch does the same thing. It's hilarious. Also he love his belly scratched. So when I'm sitting in the chair with my arm hanging over the side and scratching his belly, when I stop he grabs my hand in his teeth with a nibble and pulls it back down to his belly.

Thanks for all the comments guys, and gals.

As for biting, we call that "play biting", all our dogs have done that, and the new one does as well.

We are going to start crate training her tonight. She's spent the first couple nights on my daughters bed with Truffles but she's getting up late and night and pooping in our master bathroom. Only way I can figure to stop that is a crate.

Crate training is great. I used that method with my pooch. The vet told us it gives the dog a sense of well being in that they are den animanls.

Another endorsement for crate training but both of mine won't use their crate unless it's in the bedroom. Spoiled brats.

I crate trained my dog as well. He spent the day in it while I was at work for the first year and a half. Now he has the run of the place

The crate didn't go over too well last night, she whined, whined and whined. We caved and let her out. She did have a good night though, when she woke up at midnight we took her out to go. During the day she does know where to go and always goes outside.

I think a part of the accidents at night were due to two different antibiotics she was on giving her bad diarrhea that she just couldn't hold and make it outside. We talked to the vet and took her off those. We've seen two solid poops since. The adoption agency gave us those as "precautionary" meds.

So, between her starting to feel better, getting her on a new eating routine and when she settles into this new place, (our house) she should be 100% house broken.

How could you not cave with her having a mug like that?:) I think crate training is meant for puppies, I don't know, but that's how I trained mine when he was a pup and it worked really well.

I'm glad she is feeling better and getting acclimated to her new environment.
