I installed the RDO's on 3/17 and could hear an improvement in the brightness right away. I've clocked about 15 hours on them so far and I am starting to hear a raspiness in symbols and higher range backing vocals. Almost as if there is sand in the tweeter, or a pie tin sitting on the top of the cabinet. I don't hear it on all recordings, but last night I was listening to Sgt. Pepper mono remaster and found it very annoying. Other recordings sound fine. I did recently make a couple sets of silver interconnects, but I don't know if that has anything to do with it. Although I hear it in both channels, it seems to be stronger on the right. Altogether the crossovers have about 45 hours on them. I am just wondering if the tweeters may be bad, or do the crossovers need to break in further? Somewhere in this forum I read that the rebuilt crossovers will sound good at first, then bad, then good again?? Any ideas?

Furthur break in definitely. But then if you are switching other things in the system (IC's) it's hard to attribute it to the tweets or x-over. Give them about 200-250 hours then come back and comment. Your IC's need to break in as well.

I have a new situation. Last nigh I was giving my system a workout and all sounded great. Then, a song came on with a lot of base to it and I heard an ugly sound coming from the right speaker. I took off the grill cloth to take a look and I notice that one contact on the upper left mid range, which was causing the ugly popping sound, was sparking. I never have seen this before. Also the mid range right under it was not doing anything. I pressed on the problem driver and the one below it started working. Just wanted to put this out there and see if this makes sense to anyone before I start replacing drivers.

It sounds like the flexible wire from the woofer cone has broken. Time to take the driver out and look at it.

Some how I knew I'd hear from you first Ben, Thanks!
If you are right and the wire is broken, what do I do? Can I fix it, or is it time to replace it?

Can't say without looking at it. Where do you see the spark?

At the contact on to the left of the center cone. It's a small blue spark that dances with the music.

It's best just to pull the arcing driver at this point.

Thanks Ben! I'll order a new one on Monday.

Does it make sense that if effected the driver below it?
Any idea what the cost of a new one would be?

I would pull it and look at it first. It could be just a loose lead.

If you are indeed replacing the MW I would look for one used. The news ones from Polk look different. If that matter to you.

I am now hearing a raspy sound coming from the tweeters mostly on the left side on certain older Beatles songs. Other songs sound fine. Is it me, or could it be the recordings? It's not always noticeable. I just bought a couple of the Beatles remastered mono LP's and was playing A Hard Days Night. The title song had a lot of rasp, but a softer song like And I Love Her sounded great. I installed new RDO's in 2010.

I've played a few albums that I've owned for awhile and they sound fine. Must be the recording.
