Hello everybody,
i recently purchased all the speakers for a ht system (rti a7 for front, rti4 surround, csi3 center, 2 psw125 subs).
Now i need to choose the receiver, i was leaning towards onkyo but saw that the rated power drops considerably when all channels are driven. After reviewing for a while i came across marantz and in the tests it shows that they privode the rated power with all 7 channels driven and even more than rated when 5 channels are driven.
I have two choices the sr5004 and the sr6003, i need somebody familiar with this products to please tell me if the price difference is worth it.
I could not see a lot of difference between them besides the sr6003 has 10 more wpc.
Please advice.

If you need 2 HDMI outputs, the 6003 is the choice. Otherwise, the 5004 is a fine choice. I need 2 HDMI outputs and am considering the 6003.

Strangely,
Power ratings on the Onkyo 807 are less than the 707 or 607 when running in surround. However, the Onkyo 1007 and above show NO such power drops.
But Marantz is also a good AVR.

I have the 6003 and it is a nice unit.
There is not a whole lot of differences between it and the 5003 though. Dual hdmi outs (not simultaneous though), a usb connection, cleaner looking face with the front panel door, slightly more power (insignificant though), and a nicer OSD.Pro-ject RM-9.1 w/ Grado Sonata 1 -> USP-1 -> RPA-1 -> Vienna Acoustics Mozart Grands -
Have any of you heard about marantz pop of death or something like that? Supposedly the new models srxxx4 are dying on some occasions.
I just want to be sure of buying a great receiver to move my new speakers and get great sound. I must admit that i will watch more concerts than movies. And will use the ipod as well.
Any comments on this?HT:

if it dies.. i'm sure the manufacturer would replace it as long as it was within the warranty period.PolkFest 2012, who's going>?

I have read about that pop of death on the XXX4 series. The XXX3 series also had quite a few units with cold solder joint issues. It seemed common enough that I avoided the XXX3 three series when I last upgraded. -
The two hdmi out is for what? To have it hooked up to two tv or something like that? What other options are you considering?HT:

If these Marantz receivers shared the sound characteristics of its upper sibling, AV8003, you're up for a treat. Here is a review on SR6004 (assuming that 6004 is the newer version of 6003):
http://www.avrev.com/home-theater-av-receivers/av-receivers/marantz-sr-6004-a-v-receiver.html
I just bought an AV8003 and have been impressed with its sound quality. Very clean and compared favorably with any two-channel analog pre-amp. For HT, PQ, flexibility, Audyssey, features, are no slouch either.
POD issue, if I understand correctly, is mainly due to cable boxes (STB) send unfiltered voltage that causes the Marantz to go into protect mode. But there is a way to reset the unit to make it functional again. There is a thread on avsforum that addressing this subject.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.
