I was at a audio club meet this weekend. I was floored by the difference amping made to a particular set of speakers. what confused me was that I did not believe the original set up was under powered, but when the speakers got connected to a set of dynaco mono tubes, they just opened up. I really couldnt believe it. so, my question is this. for those of you with the rta 11, or 11tls. what kind of success have you found? high powered vintage solid state? low powered tubes? Please, do tell!!:D

I'm sure many will say tubes all the way.

Welcome Keith. Both kinds of amplification will work. I prefer at least 200wpc of amplification. I started with a Parasound 1500A 2 channel amp and it made my 20 year old RTA-8Ts come alive. I have since gotten a 5 channel amp for all of my speakers that you can see in my signature.

    So amp up & enjoy!

With the RTA11TLs, i'd start out with a strong SS amp to get your feet wet. Then you decide what you want from there. :)
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

I've got a NAD 2600a amp for my 11TL's. Not the last word in amplification, but rated at 150wpc with a lot of headroom.

I'm curious to experiment with amplification, but it'll have to wait... A different preamp is earlier in my upgrade path.

Thats what tubes will do, even to modest speakers. Nice to see you getting some ears on different things audio, changes your perspective alittle bit,eh?

Tubes in general have a sound that SS can't seem to match, though some do come close. Some will say the best combo would be a tubed pre with SS amplification. You have to experiment to see whats up your alley. Of coarse everything depends on your budget. Seems like you've been bitten by the upgrade bug and are getting ready to fall down that rabbit hole. Welcome aboard.
