I just found out about this site, so i signed up immediately. I've been reading posts all night, and there's a lot of excellent info here. I do have a question that i haven't found an answer for.
While i am new to the site, i am not new to polk speakers. I have been running the same speaker setup since 1997, so i felt it was time for an upgrade. I currently have 2 rt10's up front, an acoustic research center, and 2 r1's for rear surround. I also have a psw150 sub. I just bought a pair of owm3's that i want to add, and i need advice on where to put them. I had planned to use them as side surrounds, to change my 5.1 system into a 7.1. I also plan on replacing the rear r1's with another pair of owm3's, depending on the sound of them.
After reading some posts regarding this, i'm not sure if that would help or hurt.
Any input is greatly appreciated.
thanks........kevin

Welcome to Club Polk Kevin. As far as adding another set of OWM3's to go from 5.1 to 7.1 that all depends on the size of your room. Keep in mind that a well paced 5.1 will outperform a cramped up 7.1 anyday. I would get the 5.1 up and running with the OWM3's and see how it sounds. If you room isn't that big adding two extra speakers won't net you any great results.

Kevin, I just finished demoing the OWM 5's, and with the 10's up front, they may be a better choice than the OWM 3's. I was pleased with the sound of the 5's, and they would make a fine surround speaker.
I agree with Jeff on doing a good 5.1 system instead of a cramped 7.1. I tried a 7.1 for awhile and liked the 5.1 better.

    Welcome to the Club

Thanks for the help guys. I just took a look at the manual for my avr and noticed something. Apparently i've had my setup all wrong. I've been using the r1's as SBL and SBR. That's right, i don't have any surround left and surround right in my setup.
That being said, would adding the owm's as SL and SR be the right thing to do?
    Thanks again for the help.

    Kevin,

Welcome to Club Polk. If I were you, I would look into getting a center channel that is timbre matched to what you currently have in the rest of your setup. I started with mixed speakers, and changing to a timbre matched set made a WORLD of difference!

    Enjoy the experience!

CS10 would be the timbre match for the TSi series. I believe (correct me if I am wrong) the CSi5 would be the timbre match for your 10's.

    +1

The CS10/20 are matched to the Monitor/TSi series. You'd want something from the CSi series...ideally a CSi5, or a CSiA6.

From what I remember (and I could be wrong) the CSi series is for the RT series, and the CSiA series is for the RTi series. You should be looking at the CSi series, but I don't know if the two are interchangable, or if my statement is even correct. Any one of the centers in the particular series you are looking will "work" just a matter of how well you want it to perform. I usually recommend the biggest/baddest center you can afford/fit. The center is the most important speaker in any HT, IMHO and it carries something like 50-75% of any give audio track in a movie, esp. dialouge. So you don't want to skimp here. Hope that helps.

The CSi3/CSi5 is the match for the RTi series (8/10/12). The CSiA4/CSiA6 are the match for the RTiA series (5/7/9). There's no real reason for you to spend the extra money to get the A series speaker, that is unless you plan on upgrading your mains sometime in the future. To tell you the truth, if you are planning on keeping the RT10's, you should probably just save the money and look for a CS2 or CS20, which are the matches for the monitor and TSi series, respectively, or maybe something older that would match your mains. Anything with a 1" dynamic balance tweeter will blend well in your front soundstage. It really all depends on your budget and how aesthetically pleasing you want your center to be. The CSiA centers are relly good looking and so are the CS10/CS20 with the piano black sides. Good luck and welcome to club Polk.

    Kevin,
FYI, theres a CS350 for sale in the classifieds. He says its for local pickup only and he's selling it with a pair of LS50's for $300. This would be a pretty good match for your RT10's. Check it out.

Welcome to the forum. The general concensus in the forum has been to go with the largest center you can get for H/T. I also agree with Jimmydep, when he says that a well placed 5.1 would sound better than a cramped 7.1.
I have been very happy with my 5.1 setup and it was not particularly expensive.

    Good Luck
