I've recently purchased a 5.1 system that i've moved up to 7.1 with the purchase of 2 extra surroundies. To be quite honest i'm completely new @ this and have no clue @ what i'm doing. Most if not all of the parts of my HT are suggestions from a friend which in turn i went a head and purchased. Doing a bit of google'ing i have seemingly have dived into an ocean far to wide and deep for me to handle and would love some help with the settings of the H&K receiver that i now have. Now with that said i have got the i guess "basics" down in terms of placement and cabling and what not. What i'm concerned with @ this point is my reciever's "Manual Speaker Setup". Now i do know that the HK receiver i have does have an ez mode set-up option and have gone ahead and used that but i perfer to have some peace of mind if i had some "pro" input from the community or just any input would be great too. The settings use the term "Crossover (Size)" @ this point there are so many techincal jargon that i am @ a loss on what to set them at. For each setting there list Hz ranging from 40-200Hz, ive attempted to review the polk site to obtain what i should be setting them at to be sure of the ez mode settings (60Hz for fronts, 40Hz for ALL surrounds, 80Hz Centre, and 8" sub) but theres no clear cut answer that i can find which brings me here for help.

Any insight to what i should be placing this setting would be GReat help. Any futher clairifications needed i will try to answer. thx in advance.

I've found that generally, 80hz on all of the speakers, with a 120hz XO on the sub is best.

The settings that your HK picked for them seem kind of weird to me.

It set a 60hz crossover point for the A7's, but all of the FXi surrounds get a 40hz XO point? That seems odd, because the A7's can clearly dig much lower than the FXi's.

I doubt the FXi's can even efficiently produce frequencies down to 40hz.

You said the HK set the sub for 8"? Could you please clarify that...I've never heard of an AVR placing an inch value on the sub.

    How does it sound ?

What does the EX cal set the speakers to wrt Large or small?

You try setting all speakers to small with XO at 80hz and so how that compares to the EZ setup.

Sorry For the Sub HK has no Frequency for it it's just labeled as "Sub Size" with options ranging from 8" to 15". After using the ez setup it chooses 8"

Assuming the sub setting is for sub driver inch I would set it to 15" and see how it sounds.

You really need to get a RS SPL meter and possibly learn how to take frequency and db reading.

That is one of the weirdest things I've ever heard of in my life...It doesn't even make sense...lol

Do the different inches represent some kind of high pass cutoff that prevents it from playing too low?

Set it for 15". Your sub is a beast...I think it can handle just about whatever you throw at it.

If I'm not mistaken, you can set the sub size as well as the crossover on the Harmans. I would set the sub at 12 or 15" and to cross at about 120 Hz and the A7's at something like 100Hz. I would set the rears at 120Hz. Theres no reason to let any of your speakers try to play that low IMO. Thats what your sub is for.

I have a simliar set up. I have the HK AVR 1600, instead of the 2600. I have RTiA7's up front, CSi5 center, and FXiA6's in the rear with a PSW505 sub. I ran the EZ set up and was not pleased with the sound. After doing some reading on here and on AVS, I set my crossovers to 80hz on the fronts and surrounds and center. Set my sub to 12" and set the sub itself to 120 hz (on the back of the sub). I think it sounds amazing so far, and I'm only pushing them with 50 watts/channel. I put on Terminator Salvation and it sounding stunning!
