Speaker hookup to ProLogic Audio System

I am in the process of assembling a home theater without busting the budget. I have just purchased the large screen HDTV and will be using it mostly with HD cable programming and DVD movies.
About 8 years ago (10+?) I bought an Onkyo "Audio Video Control Tuner Amplifier" (basically a receiver amplifier with a generous assortment of audio/video peripheral hookups). It has a "Dolby Surround - ProLogic" emblem on the front and the speaker connections are: Front R & L, Rear R & L, and Center. There is no dedicated "subwoofer" output.
I have only used it as a stereo souce up until now, but hope to use it as the audio source for my home theater using the Polk Audio RM6750 5.1 Home Theater Speaker System.
QUESTIONS: Can I do this? Is this audio source appropriate for this 5.1 speaker system? How do I hook up the subwoofer?

did a quick search on the web, didn't find a whole lot of info other than it was released in 1996, is 65 wpc and a 5.1 system. the .1 meaning subwoofer so there's got to be a sub out on there. take another look, sometimes they are the push button type where you push the tab and insert the speaker wires in the holepanasonic th-50pz85u

While you will be fine with your speaker selection, Pro Logic was the predecessor to Dolby Digital which is the true 5.1 Dolby encoding. IIR Pro Logic used front main and center speakers and matrixed the rear or surround sound, meaning it did not have discreet surround tracks. The rear or surround speakers carried identical information (not R & L surround) and the freq. range was not equal to the mains or center. Most of the AVRs of that time also put out lower power to the 2 rear speakers. While it can not equal true 5.1 Dolby Digital, Pro Logic can actually make for a very enjoyable movie experience.
I think many had sub outs, but I do not think it was .1 LFE tracks, or much bass management. Just a plain ol sub out that carried a full range signal that you would do your bass management at the sub with the low pass filter. -
Thank you, that was very helpful. Just to be sure I understand, do I hook up both the center speakers and the sub to the center speaker outputs? If so, isn't there an impedance problem?

They call it the Mono Out in the manual, for line level signal. Or you could use speaker level inputs if your sub has them, and use one of your front R/L speaker level outputs to the sub, then from the subs speaker out to your front speaker.

OK, I just need to confirm that I have a mono out and I'm all set to buy the Polk system.
THANK YOU!!
