Weekend at Bennies

Made the trip to North Atlanta yesterday to pick up my Wright pre amp that had some volume pot issues and while there,I had asked Benny(Modular Electronics) to see if it could be tweaked.I also had a minty VTL stereo 50 that I had bought,in for a checkup.Benny is a very polite gentlemen,who is known for his "circuit skills" and otherwise a tube guru in the Atlanta/Georgia area,, so, while we are there ,,I am captivated by this new pre amp that he has built,,it seems that he has put everything that he has learned/taught into this unit,,to hear him talk about it,,one can feel the passion and emotion that went into this build. It has remote control,,seperate power supply,,and it just drop dead goregeous,IMHO.I've taken a few pics',of the pre and the listening area where he takes his customers to demo their repaired/tweaked equipment,, my little Wright is sitting on a table next to the Shanling,,and the VTL is sittig in the floor,,pushing a pair of monitors that just blew me away with their soundstage,detail,placement of the images,,,and to top it off,,they really disappeared completely,,so much so I had to get up and walk ove to them,,as I was convinced that the floorstanders were playing,,,eh,, not so,,I feel a pair of monitors comin' on me,,incredidable,,jaw dropping,,with BASS that was tight,deep and with feeling.Ahh,, enough of my rambling,,enjoy the pic,s

The monitors are custom made by Benny,,, and are being driven with my Wright and little VTL 50 watter.

    How does the Wright sound ? THe few times I have talked with Benny it is clear he has passion for audio, super nice guy.

    Very detailed,,fast,, the imaging and soundstage is unbelievable,,to sum it up,,5th row center,,performs waaaaaaay above my expectations,,don't think I'll be letting this one go,period.When I go back,,I want to compare it with his new one,, he was very complimentary about the Wright,,BTW,,he kept the VH caps in it,and added some others,as he felt the midrange could have been improved,,and it is,,the highs,,"sparkle" but are in no way bright.I am a little pumped about it right now.

    Excellent George ! What caps does he use ? I have to wait a couple before sending mine as he is backed up with work, that says a lot about him and his business.

    Tom,, thats him,, I like his approach-- source-pre-amp-speakers--everytime I visit,,I wanna record everything he says,,because his statements are full of information,,he really loves what he is doing,, he is a prince of a fellow,,it shows in his work and his personality,, you gotta hear these monitors--hmmm,, i have an idea.;)
