Hey guys. I have taken my H3t Hummer pick up truck to a local shop and they say I can't install subs as there is no room behind the seats. They couldn't seem to offer an alternative either. Anyone have any experience with pick up installs with limited room? Any suggestions?

Can you take some pictures of where you want to jam some speakerage?

OK, if this is how your back seat looks:
I can see how there wouldn't be any room behind it.
But I'd like to see a shot under the seats, front and rear. I'm betting you could fit a 10" slim subwoofer or even a couple 8" or 6" subs under seats. You're probably not looking for loud, just decent bass response so you don't need big speakers and big power.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

There are tons of shallow mount subs out there.
Most of these have mount depths of less than 4 inches. That means you can make a box less than 5 inches tall and still get the airspace you need while stuffing it under a seat or even mounted in an enclosure in a center console or door panel.

Or you can get a Polk Mobile Monitor 8" which has a 4" mount depth and the 10" has a 4.5 inch mount depth. Those can be squeezed in some tight spaces as well.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

That's the picture I posted.
Can you get shots under the seat so we can see what kind of clearances we are working with?
Also, does the bottom of that rear seat flip up? If so, does it have that lame GM storage bin stuff there? If so, You might be able to remove half of that and jam a box in there with a sub in it.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Putting a box behind the seat is not possible or recommended for this type of vehicle. I'm not saying it's not possible but from the looks of these pics it certainly seems this way. As the OP said, I'd love to know if the rear seat flips upward and if there is a storage compartment underneath, if so you could definitely fiberglass an enclosure and make it look factory depending on what size the storage space is. If this is not an option, you could clearly build a small enclosure in front of the rear seat centered between the two front seats to house a single 8" or 10" and make it look like an extension of the center console. Don't let anyone tell ya something can't be done it's just a matter of someone taking the time to do it.Money Talks, Mine says Goodbye Rob!!!!

Hey Darla, check these out!

It's inexpensive but it doesn't look cheap. It has decent specs for it's size.
It should fit under the front seat or the back seat if I knew what it looked like underneath.
You could get two and put one under each front seat. They are easy to wire up and you should be able to use a splitter on RCA cables for input and just jack the gain up a bit. I wouldn't worry too much about sound quality with them. The truck is gonna be noisy so any benefits you would get from extreme sound quality would be a wash with road noise intrusion. Besides, you can cross them over at 80 Hz and that should give you plenty of low-end reinforcement. Granted, you likely aren't going to shake your neighbor's windows with it but I'm guessing you aren't wanting that anyway.
I would get two though. The extra woofer and power will make a difference in volume in a large cabin area. Especially if they get stuffed under the seats. but at $200 a pop, you can get two and wire them up for less than $500.
I would have checked out an H3T at the car show but HUMMER was not there.Expert Moron Extraordinaire

Well, Crutchfield says it will fit but to measure the mounting area first to confirm. So, if you can, measure the space under the seats and see if those measurements will allow the subs above to fit. You can trust the product info and measurements on Crutchfield's site. They are very thorough in their product reporting.
If it does, call up Crutchfield's 800 number and talk to one of the people there. They can give you advice, make recommendations and make sure you have everything you need to install them in your car. You can do it yourself or get someone to do it. I don't remember for sure but they might have recommended installer lists that they can refer you to.
But honestly, any shop that isn't a bunch of jerks will be able to handle it easy enough. I know it isn't worth much but I'd help you out with it if you didn't reside so far away.Expert Moron Extraordinaire
