Allied 395 receiver (circa 1969)
Pioneer CDP (1989?)
Baby Advent II speakers (1980's)

Trying to keep it a little retro. I cleaned all of the pots and switches on the Allied with de-oxit, replaced 2 bulbs. The CDP was something Ive had for a long time still works nicely. I found the Advents at a thrift store for $10.00 in need of a re-foam. This was my first attempt at a re-foam, I think it turned out ok. I used mortite on the tweeter openings as well as the speaker connector cup and the woofers. while I had the woofers out I applied a few small peices of Dynamat to the baskets.

    Sweet.
My uncle had a set of those speakers and they always impressed me. He would not give them up.
I have re-foamed a few speakers and it is always nice to feel the reward of fixing up some older gear. I want dibs on the Advents if you choose to sell LOL. Seriously.

We had one like that before our house was hit by a flood and we had to throw it away because it looks nasty :(

You have to watch those Advent tweeters on the Baby and Graduate systems. They heat up and depart very easily with lower-powered receivers, and Advent wants $21 a pop for them, which is a joke considering how bad they are. If you see more Baby or Graduate speakers and the tweets work, buy them for spares.

    Pioneer CDP (1989?)

1989 sounds pretty close. I had one but it burned out and I tossed it a couple of years ago. I thought about keeping the cartridge in case someone needed it but I figured I'd never see another one again. Loud sucker whenever it changed disc.

I still have a set of the Baby Advent speakers that I bought back in the 80's!!
I use them as surround speakers and they blend in well with Lsi's up front. Its been over 20 yrs and they still perform and look great!! :)

Good job on the re-foam. I re-foamed a pair of Infinity SM-152's for a friend in DC a couple of weeks ago. I was happily surprised at how easy it was! She was going to toss the speakers and now she has her speakers back for 29.99 for a two-speaker kit. I'll be doing a second pair she owns in June when I go back.

It just feels great to breath life into vintage gear doesn't it?

Nice work Knuckleh.... I hesitate to perform any fine speaker work of that sort, I just pay more and use a local guy who has a shop about 20 miles away (the Stereo Doctor). He does nice work on old and vintage equipment but he's a bit slow so if you need your stuff you'd better have back up?
