Not that one can't change their mind, but how do you go from nearly sealing the deal on an F-150 to a luxury SUV/Crossover you're willing to pony up nearly 60K for?

Seems like you were willing to settle for a lot less and would have had a ton of cash leftover.

Anyways, the Mazda CX-9s are well worth your time and ranked very well. I have 2 family members that are serious in research on vehicles and both bought one of those.

Good question, not sure how we ended up there. We just started talking about the truck, realizing that we really wouldn't use it to it's full potential and decided to get a vehicle we could enjoy more of the time.

Ultimately we just wanted something new, and the truck was more of a impulse thing.

I suppose this it as well, but it's something that we'll get to enjoy more.

those SRT8's are mean sounding and have a definite presence.......

My boss drives a Land Rover Sport that has a turbo and it handles quite nicely when he stomps on it.

So you're telling me that there's not one SUV out there that handles well and has some power to it?

Again, I'm not looking for something that'll do 200 MPH and know my physics well enough to know that I'm not going to get something that sits up off the ground to take corners like an NSX. I realize that a car would be a better high performance option, that's why high performance is number 2 on the list.

I don't wanna race this thing, I just want something that's fun to drive.

I hadn't heard about the japanese cars being recalled, but either way that's just a simple fix and doesn't affect this decision because the point is I still have a good vehicle as a backup.

You should be happy though because I won't be buying a Toyota :D. They don't make an SUV that meets my requirements, and I'm not sure if Lexus does either.

You buy what you want. But you want an SUV that has high ground clearance, lots of power and handles well. But SUV's are very heavy, short wheelbase vehicles with high centers of gravity and if 4 wheel drive, usually nose heavy. Not exactly "high performance" and even if they feel solid they are far from good handling.

But hey, to each his own. But honestly, if you want big power but still some ground clearance, you'll have to look to the European brands. Expect to spend at least $40K also. There were some already mentioned.

But if I were you, I'd find another Ford dealer that isn't a bunch of douches...I mean, it's Dallas, there are Ford dealers. But I'd go look at a new F-150 SuperCrew and get one of those. Then get yourself a supercharger kit from Roush, the dealership can install it. You'll have the pickup truck, your 4 wheel drive, your ground clearance, all the room of the SUV and over 400 horses on tap under your right foot. Roush can also get you a brake upgrade so you can stop the pig as well. Add an exhaust system for some noise and take it to a Ford tuner and you'll have crazy power with actual capability and probably spend less than $40K and not many SUV's can come close to that.

Not much room, and aside from being fast, they drive like crap.... My opinion. They still have some serious cool factor though.

BMW has the X5 and X6 ///M versions but the price is over $60k.

If you can do with a truck, how about the Ford Lightning or Dodge Ram SRT-10?

I'd heavily recommend driving the few Diesel offerings that are out now. MB, Audi, VW, & BMW are all finally offering some great diesel vehicles in the US now.The torque from a diesel is more addictive than nicotine. I've personally driven the new V6 diesel Touareg and was blown away by how light it was on it's feet. Especially considering it weighs in at close to 5500lbs, and is rated to pull up to 7700lbs. On top of that, if you go easy on it, I've heard of people reporting better than 30mpg on the highway.

If that's not enough, and you don't mind buying used, you could go after the previous Touareg with the V10 diesel. That thing is an insane beast. Just do a few Google, and Youtube searches for it.
