As this is my first post I would like to begin by thanking everyone here for sharing all their expertise and experience. I've been using your forum as a reference tool over the last few months and nearly any question I could think of was either directly or indirectly addressed and intelligently discussed. Without knowing you have helped me beyond measure in building my first "decent" stereo system on a very tight budget. Unfortunately however, in the process I lost an on-board phono stage in my purchase of a B&K PT-5 and ST 125.2. My Polk Lsi 9's have never sounded better and I'm dying to hear some of my old records reborn on this new setup. I am currently trying to decide on a phono preamp. Can anyone out there sound off on the pro/cons of these two: Creek audio OBH-8SE vs. NAD PP2
Sounds good to me...

Thanks. That looks like a fantastic deal. But I am being offered the creek or the nad used for $50 and my budget is VERY tight just now. Any opinion on those two?

That NAD is a very nice phono pre. It is basically the same phone pre housed in my NAD pre-amp. Either way, for $50 you can't go wrong.

All searches I do on the Cambridge 640c come up as a CD player not a phono pre. Am I missing something? I am most susceptible to the suggestions you all make but this is confusing.

Well, the Creek audio OBH-8SE turned out to be a bust. The afore mentioned great deal at $50 was clearly beat to hell and wouldn't power up. The PP2 also looked pretty roughed up. Alas, you still get what you pay for. Soooo....

    Looks like the quest continues.

I am looking at the Cambridge 640p more and it seems to be right up my ally. However I wonder if the 540p wouldn't maake more sense as I have no immediate intention of moving to an MC cartridge. Are they the same circuit wise +- the MC stage?

$80 difference for something I won't use? Or is there more to this?

If only I could listen to both prior to purchase.:(
