Its a balancing act between AVR, sub and matching sub with mains.
AVR should be somewhere between -5db and 0db and then set sub gain level to match mains.
unless stated so by SVS 1:00 should be ok but is that correct, see aboveSpeakers: SDA-1C (most all the goodies)

I don't see why you could not turn it all the way up if you wanted.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

On my RT2000Ps I have the gain on the subs set to 1:00. I have no problems with them.

Half way is about normal. I would not turn it up more than 2/3 though.
How do you like the pc12-nsd? I am looking to get this sub soon and was curious what you thought about it. What other speakers do you have set up with it? How big is the room you have it in and how does it sound? Any pics?Front - RTiA5's

I agree, the halfway point is where I always start with subs; up or down from there.;)Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

If you weren't suppose to turn it up or down then there wouldn't be a knob on the woofer in the first place. Imo its just based on your personal taste. I know my AVR goes in 2db increments when turning it up on the audio section, and 1db increments in the setup menu. Imo to get the sound you are looking for the subs amp is still going to push as many watts as needed wether or not its the avr or the knob on the back thats allowing those watts to reach the woofer itself. You are probably better off letting the avr power the rest of the speakers that don't have a built in amp and let the subwoofer do its own work. Then again i'm no expert, but thats just what i've come up with the research i've done so far.
