I've been researching online and have decided to go with Polk for my home theater. What do you think of the proposed setup below? Would you change anything (without spending too much $$)?

Already purchased:
Yamaha RX-V665

Proposed purchase:
2 TSi 400
1 CS10
2 RM8 (i need to wall mount these - are they timbre matched?)
1 PSW 111

Thanks!

Off to a good start! Not sure about the timbre match of the rm8's though.

I'd like to keep it all under $1000 if possible.

LOL, at least Russ gave you a warning, which is more than I can say for myself. Don't think the RM8's are timbre matched to the TSi series, but timbre matching isn't as crucial with the surrounds as it is with your front 3, so you should be fine with them. Have you looked at the TSi 100's? They are wall mountable and are def. timbre matched, lol. I would also recommend stepping up the center to the CS20, if you can fit it in. IMHO the center channel is the most important speaker in any HT setup and something like 50-75% of all audio is formatted to be played by your center, so you don't want to skimp here. Other than that, looks like you are well on your way, welcome to Club Polk.

Can you pull off getting the RTi line?
Please. Please contact me a ben62670 @ yahoo.com. Make sure to include who you are, and you are from Polk so I don't delete your email. Also I am now physically unable to work on any projects. If you need help let these guys know. There are many people who will help if you let them know where you are.
    Thanks

While the Rti line would be a step up for HT...I think it would be a painful experience with a Yamaha AVR running them....if you're going to stay with the Yammie then the TSIs would be better with that--they're more laid back and have a bit less detail than the Rtis.

    Here's what I would do....

    TSI-500s OR
    CS20
    TSI-200s
    DSW600
    Pioneer 9040
    (or Pioneer Elite 21)

    I know that's over a 1000 and over your budget....but it's more future proof...

    or
    RTI-A5s
    CSi-A6
    RTI-A3s
    DSW600
And same Pioneer AVRs as above.

I think he already has the AVR cnh. So that may make it easier for him to afford the proposed setups.

You might want to try to look around for Monitor series speakers, the TSi line replaced them but a lot of monitors are still out there and will save a good amount of money. Also polk is having a deal get the psw111 for free when you spend over 500 on speakers if you didnt already know that. Don't know how much longer thats going on for though.

Avatar. I'm pretty new hear but thought I would give you my thoughts as I have very similar setup:

    Yamaha RX-V465 ($300)
    TSi400's ($550)
    CS10 center ($170)
    M10 for rears ($78)
    Jamo Subwoofer

I think you will be very happy with most of that setup. I really like the 400's and the CS10 is more than adequate for my purposes (my understanding from readin up on Polk site is that cs10 has pretty well same components as CS20, but with cs20 you will get acoustical advantages of the larger box). I simply chose the M10's because I got them cheap (78) and they are small and easy to wall mount. I decided on this as a stopgap, as I want to take my time and find and demo OWM3's and maybe TSi100's before I make a final decision on the rears. My cost for setup about $1,100 (already had the sub). Good luck.

Dude, if I were you ... actually - I was you about 2 years ago. Welcome to the rabbit hole.

I did a quick amazon search. I would get:
    • 4 - Rti4's at $150 / pr
    • CSi3 - $121
    • and the 505 sub - $250
Total - about $700 with shipping.

Then save your money and look for the 8's to go on sale for L/R and move the 4's to surround back. I would like to recommend the 10's or 12's but with your current amplification, you would probably need to upgrade to get the most out of them.

A lot depends on the purpose of the speakers. Mine started out H/T about 80% of the time. I have since rediscoved some of my old CDs and am now about 50/50.

BTW - the 4's have a keyhole on the back for wall mounting. They do stick out a little bit so you will want to measure.

    Good luck.
