Avatar will probably win because it spent the most money....but I'd choose Up In The Air or Inglorious ****.

Up and District 9? Whatever. The Blind Side and Precious couldn't be more awful.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

The only reason The Blind Side was nominated was so that the average movie-goer might have something invested in watching the Oscars. Other than that, it can't possibly be in the same league as some of the other films.

I can't say I like having ten nominations. It just further reinforces my point.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

I've only seen three of the movies on the list (Up, District 9, and Inglorious ****), and I'd have a tough time deciding just between them. District 9 was just such an original take on an old story, Inglorious **** was just... quintessential Tarantino, and UP.... Up was a masterpiece. As near perfect as a movie can get IMO, and the fact that it was animated just makes it that much more impressive.

Usually story line, acting, I just thought IB had a little humor, action, gore & drama, I think its hard to incorporate all of that and still have a watchable movie. Just my .02.

seen those, BS was watchable don't think it was that great, HL was very good, not sure if it will win and Precious was a decent movie. Will it win? depends if Oprah can pull some strings.

Saw 4 of those.. Avatar, Blindside, UP and Up in the air. Enjoyed all 4. I think UP and Up in the Air were the two best out of them b/c of the story and acting, however the most fun I had was watching Avatar, the experience of that was awesome but I'm not sure it deserves an Oscar win, but it definitely deserved the nomination

I'm rooting for The Hurt Locker. It had such a limited release (535 theatres per Box Office Mojo) but an Oscar would hopefully give it more exposure and perhaps a wider theatrical re-release. However, I'm not so sure Hollywood likes war movies to win Best Picture (e.g. Shakespeare in Love won over Saving Private Ryan).

I also saw Inglorious **** which was entertaining in a QT sort of way. His movies are very distinguishable. The same can be said of Mamet like him or not.

I agree with Hurt Locker being over rated. I didn't dislike it just am not a fan of the handheld camera and all of its twitching and off angle closeups. If you think about it this film had to be relatively inexpensive to make. I would recommend that anyone who is a fan of a good war movie then this should be seen. I just don't think it is Best Picture material.

I don't think District 9 deserved the nod (but hell, I think Star Trek deserved it more if you just had to have another sci-fi flick other than Avatar in the list). However, I'm glad District 9 got nominated just as a slap in the face to Universal, who refused to let Neill Blomkamp direct the Halo movie despite the support of Peter Jackson. Now, the Halo movie is dead in the water and Blomkamp's directorial debut is an Oscar contender. Suck on that, Universal!

I hope UP wins it. It really was an absolute masterpiece, and I'm glad they didn't confine it to just the animated picture category. What Pixar did with that movie transcends the usual boundaries of what animated films offer.

If Christopher Waltz (the main "villain" in the movie) doesn't win for best supporting actor it will be an outrage. Amazing performance by him.

AVATAR In a word simply yes this movie should get it period.
THE BLIND SIDE Never saw it
DISTRICT 9 Over rated and was something that I would probably not watch again.
AN EDUCATION Never heard of it.
THE HURT LOCKER Over rated reminded me of a watered down jarhead.
INGLOURIOUS **** Was good but not that good.
PRECIOUS Never saw it no intention of seeing it.
A SERIOUS MAN Never saw it.
UP Was good but come on best picture?
UP IN THE AIR Another good movie and had a good story line.

To me avatar needs to win simply the best movie that I saw this past year and me being someone that goes to the movies almost every weekend I know I have seen a lot of movies.

A movie that can hold your attention and pull you into the actual story and make you feel as if your apart of that movie. Not to mention being able to see a movies over and over and still get sucked in. That to me is avatar. I could care less how much a movie actually makes as long as it is a great movie.

Doesn't mean you have good taste :)

A good movie should have compelling stories and characters, as well as presentation. Avatar is an achievement in "presentation", but the story and characters are nothing new or special. Just because something is amazing to look at doesn't make it a great or even good film, it makes it pretty.

You can like whatever you want but these types of awards are supposed to reward films that are good all around, and I just don't think Avatar fits that criteria. It's a lame story told beautifully.

Don't take this the wrong way Senor BigAudio, but have the makers of Avatar finally got around to filing that restraining order against you?

Avatar is extremely overrated. As was stated above it's a lame story but has all the gee wiz graphics, plus the IMAX 3-D gave my girlfriend motion sickness. lol At two hours and forty minutes it's almost akin to torture.

I saw all 10 except for An Education and Precious.

My pick for best picture is: INGLOURIOUS ****

Agreed, I just watched IB again over the weekend. Very good movie. Avatar was a good movie also. The 3D version had WOW factor, but not sure about best picture. Both were very good movies though and if I had to pick one I would probably choose IB.
