Just purchased Rti a9's from newegg($599) had to do it. I have a Yamaha 5790 with bose 601 series III currently. Hope the 5790 will get me by for now but will be looking for a 2 channel amp. Any suggestions for wire and amp to get would be helpfull. I plan on completing the rti a9's with a center channell, surrounds, and subwoofer.

What is your budget for the amp? You may want to get a 3 channel amp since you plan on going full surround. You can probably power your surrounds and rears through the Yamaha.

Regarding speaker wire, you can go cheap, but good (monoprice) to expensive (Kimber). It all depends on what you want to spend as well.

If your AVR has preouts which I assume it does, there are many good choices. Adcom 555 ot Carver TFM25-35-45 plus some Parasounds.

I use a Denon that is rated about the same WPC as your Sony and find it drives my center (CSiA6) and Rears (RTi38s) just fine.

If you are looking for a new AMP I have no suggestions, all my stuff is used.

AFA speaker wire, signal cable, Bluejeans or some raw Audio QUest T4 and make your own terminations. Monoprice is ok for cheap speaker wire but a step up for not too much more money is worth it.

Thanks for the help. I have been looking at some knukonceptz speaker wire around $1 a foot 10 or 12 gauge???? The adcomm amps look great but a little to expensive. I was looking more around $600-$700 for an amp. I noticed the Emotiva xpa-3 at $600 which is 3 x 200 wpc would that be enough watts???

Yes it would be. Some pretty nice Carver TFMs can be had for $250-$400 just make sure it has been serviced recently. I just sold a very nice TFM-45 serviced by Rolland for $600. Not that WPC count that much but it was rated at 375wpc. I am using a 40wpc tube amp now that drives my 1Cs just fine.

I was in your same boat. I have the A9's A6 center and some OWM3's for surrounds and wide DSX.

I have a Denon 4310 that powers everything fine, however I have always heard how running a good amp with considerable power would warm up the A9's. I debated back and forth between the Emotiva 3 or 2 channel amp. I don't use my TV speakers at all so in reality I use home theatre more than 2 channel stuff and I had read conflicting info about running the same amount of power to the front 3 speakers for HT setups. In a perfect world you should, however other people say it didn't matter much or they didn't notice a big difference.

I decided on the Emotiva 2 channel amp.
    1. Because it is built more stout than the 3 channel amp.
    2. A lot of people really like the amp.
    3. Emotiva just released info that now they are putting on paper that the XP-2 is up 50watts per channel. They said it was really under rated before, so now it is at 300 watts per channel (8 ohm) compared to the XP3 at 200 watts per channel (8 ohm).
    4. Now that the receiver doesn't have to power the main towers, it has the 4 small surrounds and the center to drive, so the power output should be higher going to those speakers. Also the receiver will not be working as hard no matter what I am doing 2 channel or HT.

Now I haven't got the XP2 yet but if I don't like it, I will swap it for the 3 channel. However I think I will be fine. Also I am not going to bi amp or anything with the center because most people said that doesn't do squat.

If I had unlimited money I would have done something else but I am on a budget.

May want to keep an eye on E-prey for a CSi-5 , same center speaker , just doesn't have the rounded edges on the cabinet. Very little difference IMHO.
I just got one for $175 , excellent shape.

First of all, congrats on your speakers, good for you you found a great deal!!!.

I do not know if you guys are familiar with the brand of amps qsc, but i can tell you that we have used it in our professional system and they are great.

They offer a good professional amp (the gsx3 or gsx5), the gsx3 offers 300 watts per channel driven 8 ohm at a thd of 0.05%.

Remember the greater power from the amp the better is going to move your speaker and the less volume you are going to need, this last resulting in a great clean sound without distortion.

The qsc gsx3 cost about 300 delivered.

Go to www.qsc.com and check it out.

I personally like the two channel Adcom 555 (MkII or SE, whichever you can get cheaper). The original 555 (non-rackmount versions) are good too, but lack the extra per-channel fuse protection, something you may want with the A9s and the power you'll shove through them.

My only gripe about Onkyo AVRs (I own the TX-NR5007) is that the Audyssey setup uses a curve with a rather steep rolloff past 6.3kHz, requiring a manual adjustment of ALL channels' EQ to +2 or +3db at the 6300Hz and higher EQ bands in order to simulate the preprogrammed Audyssey "flat curve", which is only used, ironically with THX modes. Kinda backasswards there, don'tcha think? :p

Edit: Damned smileys on these forums are different from every other one I'm on.
