hey gents, I'm a speaker nut and have bought and sold a LOT of speakers in the past year and managed to pick up some monitor 10b's here a couple weeks ago. One of the tweets looks like a peerless but is silver, the other is only the silver dome, and it ends up one of the 6503 woofers is blown...I put some tape on it and can make it stop farting but it's just a stopgap at this point.
I was wondering if I must replace the 6503 with a 6503 or if there is any info on what other driver number might work in this speaker. I really love these and they are keepers. In fact I like them so much I'm considering selling a lot of other speakers to fund some SDA's that I have my eye on. I'm a little concerned that I'm seeing that guys here think the SDA 2* suck....what sucks about them?

The SDA 2 with the dimensional tweeter are not as desirable as the 2A or 2B because of some improvements in the cabinet and the fact that Polk discovered that a dimensional tweeter wasn't necessary and went with a point source tweeter array in the larger SDAs in later revs. I haven't heard the side by side tweeter models, but I'm told they quite good and the dim tweet can be disconnected for improved imaging.
thx Ron, how do I tell these models apart? Someone nearby has what I think are some version of 2's in his garage and will sell them to me but I have no way of knowing which ones are which. If they're better than the 10b's then I'll be very excited because I really like the 10b's quite a bit. A buddy that has some RTA 12's turned me onto polks and to me the imaging is just incredible. I also really like that the bass is tight, punchy and defined instead of boomy and vague. -
the 6503's are not easy to come by. I found some on ebay last week and the listing ended, he relisted and I was looking at them and somebody bought them as I was looking at them.
has anybody tried the peerless replacements that are being sold on ebay? I can't remember the initials of the company right now. can't seem to find any info on them.
thanks for the welcomes guys -
It is Midwest Speaker in Roseville, MN about 3 miles from me. keith

The easiest way would be to take a picture of the front with the grill off, and a picture of the back connection where the cables connect and post here. Or you can go to www.polksda.com and familiarize yourself. There are some pictures there. I used the EBAY PDFs of closed SDA 2s to determine which ones I was looking at and someone here confirmed it for me. -
SDA 2 have either a pair of SL1000 or SL2000 tweeters on top, side by side, a stereo driver, dimensional driver and bass driver along with a 12" passive radiator. 2As dropped the dimensional driver and the bass driver and has a vinyl (could be veneer IDK) wood grain finish and sits on a pedestal. 2Bs have a veneered top and bottom endcap, are black clothe wrapped and have a single SL 2000, a stereo and dimensional driver and the PR. I believe the 2s and 2As are blade/blade and the 2Bs are pin blande (IC cable). The 2Bs are the ones I own.

it seems the 2's are the ones I've got a line on. Should I consider passing on them? I'm not afraid to tweak them to optimize if need be.
I'm pretty upset with myself as I just missed getting some RTA 11's extremely cheap because I wasn't educated enough at the time. -
Ron - Just a quick question, not to thread hijack however. If Polk dropped the dimensional driver on the 2A then how would it still be an SDA? Would it be just the crossover difference? Just interested in how the SDA effect would work without a dimensional driver.Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me

As far as passing...depends on price and how often SDAs come up in your area.

Thanks for the info Ron (& Concealer). That's what I thought you were saying but as it read it seemed as if you were talking of the driver, not the tweeter.Remember, when you're running from something, you're running to something...-me

I really like the sound of my brother in laws 2's. I have the 2A's which may be nicer but you won't be disappointed with any of those models.
just my 2cents.
good luck! -

thanks Chandler, I'll see what happens with the 2's....although their owner is really slow to reply here.
