SDA-2 Vs. SDA CRS

I have a chance to pick up a pair of original SDA-2's for about $150. The ones. With three drivers and horizontal tweeters. OR a pair of SDA CRS with the single tweeter for $275.00

What do you guys think? The CRS's don't come with stands. And the SDA-s don't have grills or and IC cable..

Any help would be appreciated.

    SDA-CRS
The guys all say the CRS speakers are amazing and best if pin/blade so you can do a TL upgrade if you like.
I hate the SDA2's your asking about.

+1 for the CRS speakers. You will be amazed at the sound. The best book self speaker Polk as ever made. If you get them, make sure you get a sturdy stand for them. They are heavy for a bookself speaker.

Get the SDA2's so I can get the CRS's:)

+100 for the CRS's. Both Sda cables are easy to get so don't let that be the deciding factor.

I kinda figured what you all were going to say... Thing is I really don't want to spend the money on the CRS's. There not local and the y don't have stands. The SDA-2's are local and cheap.

Don't know what to do.. I really want a floorstander. But I've heard such good things about the CRS's.

Would room size matter with the CRS's?

I have a living room that opens up into the kitchen. Its about 16 x 30

Theres another pair on ebay with stands I could watch if I didn't want to get the ones without stands...

Knowing what you want (i think), neither of them. Wait for a nice set of floorstanders.

    Woot!

What do I want? Any suggestions?

I just want something CHEAP and effective. I'm trying to build a cheap but musical 2 channel system. I only have $230 in the front end and $200 in a amp. So I figure a $200-$300 max on speakers.

I know th SDA-2's are not favorites among most here. But thought given my system, price and room. They might be effective...

Your other wanted thread is on the right track i think. You don't want the horizontal tweets, they'll drive you batty, knowing you. :p

You don't want the CRSs, because you'll always be sitting there in your living room wishing you had bigger speakers, knowing you. :p

I think the RTA idea, personally. Something different. But i think you'd be good with a nice pair of 1Cs, too. (Stretching it for your price range, though?)

What do i REALLY think? I think you need to come up and take another listen to mine. ;)

    DEAD ON! Somebody knows me~!

I'm worried the CRS's will be to small! And I just bought a high current some what high power amp to drive some bigger speakers. So you right on that one.

And the SDA-C's would defiantly be my first choice for my next SDA. If only I could find a pair in my price range and close...

I REALLY want to try out a pair of RTA12b's also.

I'll try to make it up there soon. Promise.

I doubt if you are going to find SDA 1C's in that price range that are not abused. I would look for a nice set of SDA 2B's. They have very similar mid's and high's for music but with a little more bass than the CRS. If you are patient, you can find them in your price range. In a room that size you are going to appreciate the SDA effect and how it has a wide soundstage. Hang in there.

    Yep.

After some thought and help from you guys. I think I am going to pass on both speakers and hold out for a pair of SDA-2B's.

I think the 2B's will be the best fit. And I all ready have a line on a pair in Indianapolis. Hopefully it pans out. If not. I'll wait for a pair.

Don't you want to try something different? :p You've already had SDAs, and you've had the old Monitor line. Go for some badass RTAs or something. ;)

I'm defiantly not going to limit myself to just the 2B's. If something else pops up that will fit the bill. I'll buy it.

And your right. I've owned both SDA's and Monitors. And yes. I VERY much so want to try some RTA's. I will someday. Thats for sure. I particularly want to try out the RTA 12B's. My dad had a pair back when they were new. And they were his last pair of speakers before getting out of the hobby. So it would be cool to hear them and have some in house so he could see them again...

If cheap is what you're looking for then look on Chicago's craigslist they have RTA8's and TL's for around $75.

I don't think those are going to tickle your fancy. I think you'd need at least 11s. Just a hunch. ;) But for $75, that's something that wouldn't hurt at all to check out.

Just curious--what is so special about the RTA's compared to the Monitor series?
