Is Pioneer leaving the bluray market? I've read rumors on other forums that they might be and they didn't bring anything at the 2010 CES show regarding bluray/disc players.

Pioneer seems to have a pretty wonky mgt team at the moment. I saw them referenced in a non-audio business/market review and it indicated that they are kind of adrift without a firm hand on the tiller. They need Cap'n Jack Sparrow!

Pioneer hasn't produced a kuro or any other plasma since April 09. The remaining sales are just depleting stock. I was lucky enough to purchase a kuro a few months back with a mfg. date of April 09, last month of production.:(

Where have you been? Pioneer announced that it was dropping optical disc players and plasma TV's last February. They are going to focus on mobile electronics, not home audio.

They were planning on a joint venture with Sharp (re-badged Sharp players), but I'm not sure if that ever materialized.

Heard through the grapevine Panasonic bought up all the patents back near the end of summer.

If that is true then watch out for the new viera's, pioneer did make the best plasma on the market but the prices were ridiculous. A Panasonic plasma with Pioneer technology would make an already appealing TV that much more so.

Yup, very true, word on production using those patents was 2012. We'll see! I hope that is the case the Pio Plasmas were certainly the pinnacle of flat panel display. The latest kuro is my third one and the best.

I was just going to ask the very same thing. I have no experience with them, but others say they rank among the best. It would be a shame to loose them too.

I don't know, but I wouldn't be suprised. The only reason they released the current crop of BD players, was because they were already developed at the time they made the decision to leave the market. Maybe the same is true for the AVR's as well.

It would be odd to have a home audio division that only made recievers, and no source components.

These are sad times for our Industry. Sad indeed. Sony and Pioneer where the front runners for so many years. I don't know how to act if they both drop off.

    Whats next?

Through my vendors in reference to " Pioneer " it is the ELITE line or nothing. The Samsung BDP-3600 Blu-ray player will do everything the ELITE does for almost 1/2 with the exception of 52bit color which to the best of my knowledge isn't out yet. The Samsung has true 24fps plus 1 gig hard drive same as the Elite. Also comes with wireless usb antenna for upgrades. The Elite doesn't offer that. Currently top players in H.D. T.V. are Panasonic , Samsung , Vizio , Sharp. Depending on model Sony and Mitsi.

Does the Samsung have Wolfson DACs and PQLS (jitter-reduction circuitry)--among other things?

And have you seen the Pioneer 09 BDP?

I love my pio gear, for me the price was great and also the picture was fantastic. I am sad to see them go, I think they were offering a very good value for what they had.
Also the BDP-09 is a beast of a player. I saw it in action and wow. I love my BDP-05 however still and even though no BD live, I don't really care about that great pic.

Exactly.....even my BD-51FD has the Wolfson which is unmatched compared to other local players, and there analog multi channel is awsome like all pioneers. I would think the Oppo is better in that price range, but not Samsung or Panasonic.

Too bad about this. I was an early adopter of Pioneer plasma (to the tune of 8K) and still haven't found anything that's convinced me to upgrade although I could be tempted by the SONY OLED if they ever increase the screen size.

I never seen the BDP-09 so I'm not sure how it performs but from looking at it's spec sheet and price I think it's way over priced, same as the Denon player. I would say the Oppo is the best for the price range with even faster loading times.

Does anyone have the Pioneer Elite 23fd and know anything about it?

I called two authorized Pioneer dealers earlier and both said that Pioneer is still in the bluray and reciever market and one said Pioneer will release it's 2010 bluray models in May to July and the other said Pioneer will release it towards the end of the year.

Both customer reps said there won't be any new ground breaking technology in any of the bluray players from any manufacturer, there's no new real advancements in bluray technology other than 3D. Only thing that could possibly be improved on the bluray players is load times.

It's time to search for a good deal if this is true. A BDP09 for 1/3 of MSRP, perharps.

Be patient, brother. Patience is the mother of all virtues. I need to brag a bit about my Internet 1/2 price shopping. During the year of 2009 , I've got 3 Pio BDP51FDs NIB for $149.00 a piece, 1 Pio SC05 for $899.00 NIB, 2 DVD2500 BDTCI for $289.00 a piece, 3 pairs NIB of RC10 for $299.00 each with free Moda 31" speaker stands, 1 Pio elite BDP95 NIB for $350.00 and 1 Onkyo 876 NIB for $899.00, 8 Def Tech NIB SM450 for $350.00 a apair. I have saved over couple of thousand of dollars by shopping the internet.

Only one bad deal is the the $399.00 Polk 360 which I am going to give it away to another person .

This is buyer market and cash is king. Grab whatever you can as long as it's 1/2 price NIB and the Pio BDP09 will be discontinued soon. Shop at Vann's.com, J & R, new egg or Ebay instead of BB or local dealer will pay off if you can wait for a right time and have the cash right away. Good luck with the BDP09 1/2 off searching. It's coming.

Nice grabs, I got my SC-05 for 800.00 NIB. So that was pretty nice. I can't believe the price you grabbed those 51's at wow. I paid double that for the 05 and all the 51's I was seeing out there were more.
I'll keep my eye out for some others to pop up.
Best buy by me was putting their baseline Pio players up for around 120.00 bucks which was sad seeing online they are going for 140.00

Maybe that's a good thing, since the Pioneers are the buggiest and slowest BD players around.
