You can make a pair for real cheap if you are interested in going that route.

Yeah, I saw that article but over the years I have learned that I have about zero d-i-y skills. Was reinforced a while back after an unfortunate experience in the "fix the drip in the kitchen sink episode" :D

If you are going the sand route might I recommend reptile sand as it doesn't attract or hold moisture thus eliminating the possibility of mold growing.

Too bad. I have some nice 4-5" resin Columns I would give you, that I have left over from a Fireplace job. They are a "classical" column design. They could/would look very sexy :D

They would need bases and caps similar to the DIY link. And they would need to be filled and painted.

    Picture something like this:

The columns I have measure 5" OD at the top and 5.5" at 36" down.
(not including caps and base 'trims')

They area made from a heavy resin material, I would guess the piece as they are now, weight 10-15#, each. The walls of the column are 1/4" to 3/8" thick. I do know you cut them with a diamond or masonry cutoff blade.

    I got mine from:

Roof Truss Supply Inc (Roof Truss Supply, Inc, RTS Lumber)
    147 37th St NE
Auburn, WA 98002-1708(Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA Metro Area)
    Phone: (253) 833-9094
My sales man was Greg, but IDK if he is still there.

But "I MAY" be coming down to Lakewood area/ Lacey this SAT???
to pick up a used TT. If so, I will let you know.

I'll post pictures this afternoon, if you are interested.

He did drop the price to $160.. (at least I 'think' it was listed for more yesturday) Is that more than you want to spend?
Not bad if you like the modern style, since they were $300 retail

I wish you had answered your PM's. I see you came up to Seattle, I could have met you with the other columns...Are you back down home now?

Pulled them out of my storage unit. Sorry, they might be alittle 'rougher' than I remembered. :( You do need to see them with an 'artists eye'

Here are a couple of pictures of the ones I have. The darker area along the side is where they sanded the seam at the factory, it's still pretty much smooth. When I finished the other set (these are from a FP mantle I built) we just skim coated them with 'finish bondo' and sanded them smooth. The caps (if you wanted to use them) are resin for the base and cast foam for the tops. You could crop the photos to get an idea how they would look.

I have not heard back from my carpenter friend. Course he usually takes a couple of days to get back to me...he's not too 'computer sazzy'...hehe

I have some 24" tall metal stands, already filled w/ sand, that I'm not using any more. They are still in excellent condition, with maybe a few more layers of dust. Still assembled, so no DIY req'd.

I've attached a pic of them from a few years ago. Funny, the stands and the CSi40 are the only gear I still have from all that is shown! :)

3" diameter tube, adjustable carpet spikes, rubber pads on top plate to protect speakers. I think they are Plateau stands, bought new from Hawthorne.

PM me if interested as I'm also in Seattle (well, Redmond)...

Good luck w/ your new stands! Maybe I'll find a use for my stands again someday, they are solid, heavy and perform well...

Starkiller: Are you still interested in pursueing making some stands? I have left you PM's and email but I have not heard back from you. I have contacted a finish carpenter down close to you, but he would like some drawings and material info from you/ us so that he can give you an estimate as to what it costs. Please email me or PM me with your contact info, if you want to do this.

    Thanks!
