Remove PSW 1000 side panels?

Hey Guys,

I just upgraded my front sound stage from LSI 9's to B&W 800 series monitors in cherry wood. The shade is quite a bit lighter than the darker cherry on my PSW 1000 sub. So, I thinking, just for looks, I would like to remove the side panels from the sub, but only if there is a glossy piano black finish underneath. Does anyone know if that's the case? I know a couple of you have modified the side panels of the LSI floor standers and monitors with much success.

I guess the other option would be to re finish the wood panels in some kind of black stain or paint, but I'm kind of hesitant to try that, especially if there is a glossy finish underneath.

I love the sub, just want it to blend in better visually. Would appreciate any thoughts you might have.

By the way, I love the new speaks. Very sweet.

If your speakers are new, just out of the box, the wood might seem light, but Cherry darkens over time, especially if exposed to sunlight. You might want to give it a month or so, before making any changes.

Thanks Jimmy, but the speakers were already out of box at the dealers for a few months as demos which was great 'cause I got them at a nice discount. They will not get any sun light. The difference in color is substantial, I can't see them ever darkening enough match the sub. Fortunately, the sides are not too noticeable the way I have it set up. I just want to make it perfect. If I can somehow do a good job of making them black, they will blend in with my plasma and electronics and set off nicely with the other speaks.

You could always lightly scuff them, prime them and then paint them a satin finish in black.

Yeah, that's what I'll probably end up doing. Think I'll call Polk on Monday and see if they can describe what's under the panels. If it's not glossy, I'll probably go ahead and paint them, very carefully and with good prep. I really like the piano black. But, the satin finish should look nice too.
