Presence speakers?

Just what exactly are "presence" speakers? I have a Yamaha RX-V665 av unit that along with the 7 channels, it also has hook-ups for "presence" speakers. I am in process of building a sound/theatre room and am wondering if they need to straddle the satellites or what. Would they be the ones to mount in ceiling?

    The speakers are acutally supposed to be placed above the front left and right speakers to give it more of a sense of surround. I found that it didn't really add a whole lot to movies, games a bit more but not much. In the manual there should be a section that explains how to set them up properly. In all honestly I didn't find they were needed, but maybe to you, you will like them and want them hooked up. I would try them out first and then go from there.
