Alright! So I picked up another set of Monitor 10b's today from Hamatym (who is a straight up guy I might add).

Now I have two sets...The new ones are early 10b's, flat fronts and fused. My others are later, with the angled front trim and the polyswitch.

Just for fun, I decided to hook both sets up to the Adcoms. One set is on spiked stands, the other just on the floor (carpet). Wow! What a sound! It's an entire wall of sound. Both sets are positioned for my personal position on the reclining couch. I can't wait until afternoon when no one is sleeping so that I can put it to the test.

It makes me want hunt down 4 more Monitors and 2 more Adcoms for rears in an earth shattering home theatre system!

Thanks Cincy! Now that I have 2 pairs, I think I will re-do one set. At the moment, I personally can't tell a difference between the 2 pairs (and neither can bro-inlaw), which is a good thing. First a x-over rebuild...will be able to do an honest side by side comparison afterward. Then, I want to replace the tweeters in a set...another side by side comparison.

I am really looking forward to the tweeter upgrade as the "tinniness" is more noticible on some music more than others. I was listening to something from a Neil Young cd the other night. Even at a moderately low volume level, with the wife asleep in the next room, one track was very bad...it was BRUTAL! I mean to the point of being intolerable. It actually hurt. But on other stuff...Carpenters, Steely Dan, Rush....they are great.

As far as those SRS in Ky....that would be a seriously long haul for me...450 or so miles. I am midway between Columbus and Cleveland.

I don't know anything about that Nad, but my bro-inlaw runs a Nad with his Maggies. Sounds good, but he has a smaller 55 wpc version and it really doesn't do them justice. I tried a new Yamaha avr with "90 wpc", but it didn't cut it. They sounded good, but it didn't make them sing like the Adcoms. The Monitors need a bunch (imho) of power to really make them work right.

^ I recently acquired a pair of 10's as well. A few weeks ago. And today was the first time I really put the power to them (Onkyo Integra M504) and man, did they sing! I was really surprised how well they sounded.

I have an aquaintance that uses an Onkyo to drive his 10's as well. Not sure of the model, but they really sounded great with it. Which 10's do you have?

Got it. I worked for 6 months in Ashland, OH up that way and am familiar with the drive. Still better than when I got sent to Ashtabula between Cleveland and Erie.

I was just being selfish and trying to get you out of looking mode so when those minty TLs pop up local you won't see em first.

Ohhhhhh, now I see how the game is played. I can see we are going to have to break out the map and draw up a "Do Not Cross" border :D.

Why are you always cross posting? Make you own thread for you questions and sales instead of cross posting in other peoples treads.

There is a For Sale forum to sell your stuff in... Use it instead please.

LOL... I don't think you will have to worry about me in the short term. My checkbook has established a "do not cross" border for me all on it's own. It would have to be steal before I would even ask my wife and then I would have to sell some of my current projects.

Hey Halo, After many years I sold my 10s a few months back...still regretting it! However, my LSI-15s are a consolation and I won't be making the same mistake again.

    Ok, here ya go Pauly.
BUT, like I said in another thread, don't give me a hard time about the way things are splayed out on the floor. I am in process of constructing a dedicated room in the basement. It has 8' ceilings and with it being virtually empty...I have a clean slate to construct as I wish.

I'm just glad I have an understanding wife that allows me to spread stuff across the living room floor until I have a place to put things.

    Looking good.

    Now you either have to

    A) Find some orig stands
    B) Build some stands on orig specs

I didnt have any for my first pair and thought they sounded great. I have some with my second pair and they play a role in how you listen. Toe in on stands and you got one helleva sweet spot. There are schmatics around here somewhere

    Enjoy

Nice!!....Those look really good together, I bet that room really rocks when you want it to. Ya, you do need stands for your other 10's. Those metal ones really bring the listening level up, so if you go any smaller you want them angled up. I may be able to help out again, I will let you know in a couple weeks. It's a long story..ha ha

Here are a couple different schematics I pulled up a couple days ago. Very little difference between the two, FWIW.

Well, they are like a dark cherry color. Kinda redish brown? Not sure what veneer was used on them really.

Ya' gotta remember, this is only a temporary setup. At the moment, the toe-in and and angles are directed for my, and my only, position on the reclining couch. Thats the reason for the blocks underneath the ones on the floor. I tried to aim them so that both sets hit the ears at the same point. They are fairly close, but could be better.

I can't get into the closet without moving one of the speakers, so I really can't keep both sets as they are now for very long.

Thanks for the stand blueprints, I will probably make a set within the next weekend or two.

Thanks Hamatym! It does look "cool" doesn't it! I cranked the volume up to 50% (I have never been above 60%) and you couldn't even talk to someone right beside you! It was awesome! For some reason, the dog heads straight for the door when he sees me turn on the amps.

Got a set of Polk 10a's I am getting rid of for $100.00. I am the original owner and they are in excellent condition. They sound just as amazing as the day I bought them. When I was going through my black furniture days, I sprayed the outside black and they look really nice. If you are interested give me a call or email me. I can send some pics if you want. I also have a set of 15' Monster Speaker Cables that I used with them and selling these for $10.00. They work awesome with these speakers. Contact info is

Sam, Selling outside of the Flea Market is frowned upon here, in spite of it being a good deal. Check out the rules and abide by them and you will fare much better here. And I would be hesitant to post that much personal info on an open internet forum, also. Care to share your SSN? ;)

Welcome to the club, stick around.

    And GO Bucks!

Sam, not meaning to offend you, but I am a new guy here too and would rather not do any kind of dealing in this manner. I really like this place and want to stick around. I want to find my place here and hopefully share as well as learn from others. Not to mention just shooting the breeze with those that share the same passion.

If you really are a polk lover, stick around and make a few posts...introduce yourself. If you have Polk stuff to sell...won't be too hard.
