Really aside from the $400 difference, these speakers look very similiar. What makes the A9 so much more?

RtiA9s are newer. They should be pretty much identical in term of specs, however the general opinion seems to be that the A series sound a bit more tame and less bright.Onkyo 805, RtiA5s, Csi5, Rti6s

The cabinet design of the a9's is much improved over previous generations IMHO, and likely is the big reason the sound has improved. The Gear... My new A9's are over 80 lbs each! And yes, looking at the specs and pictures of the A12's, I think they upgraded the mids and tweeter?? I could be wrong. I almost picked up a set of 12's for 900 total from J&R...

As said in a previous post, the 9's aren't as bright as the 12's. To me the 9s aren't fatiguing since the highs are mellowed compared to the 12s. I ran the 12's with a HK receiver as well and it is warm in nature. The 12's were still too bright for me with it. I did not have the opportunity to add an amp to the 12s but did the 9s. I must say go for an amp if you don't have one.Ryan Jozwiak
