Thorens set up

I started a thread a while back asking for some pointers on setting up a Thorens turntable for a friend. It would not track for him,let alone keep the needle on the record. That thread has since been lost to the interwebs. Well any how, after a quick inspection I found that the that the spot where the counter balance attaches had a loose screw making it impossible to set the tracking force. I tightened down the screw and was able to set it, I set it so there was just enough force to keep it on the record, but would skate across the record. Then I set the anti skate about 1/2 way and it traced just fine. I do not have a phono pre, so I had to use my B&K pre (will soon be up for Karma) as such with output from the tape loop into my Denon AVR. OMG!!! WOW, this thing is absolutely freakin' awesome. I have decided that my Sony tt is not a turn table, but a turn disaster. The treble was so much clearer and cleaner, it had a more detail than I have ever heard before. Even the bass was better, it was fuller, and I think I now know what texture actually is. I spun my cleanest record for set up, Then put on BIA for some critical listening. I told him that I was going to tell him it was broke an keep it( I would not actually do this). I am totally impressed as was my wife. If I ever come across one again, it will be mine.
