The first quality speakers I ever purchased were a pair of model 5's. I still have them, and they still sound good. I have read here that they will sound better if I upgrade the tweeters to Peerless, or RDO. Is this correct?. If so, is one better than the other? Where do I find them?

Thanks for any help. Maurice

What's in them now? If you have Peerless already, then i wouldn't bother upgrading.

If you have the SL series, then you upgrade to RDO.

SL to Peerless isn't real straightforward i don't think.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

How do you tell what they are? I looked, and there is no label on them. I pulled one out and it had this # on the magnet 55141480. The serial # of one of the speakers is
5 114101. Does any of this tell me?

    Thanks, Maurice

I will have to wait for my daughter to help me with the pics as I am a moron when it comes to posting things on the computer. These are early versions of 5B's where the mid slightly overlaps the ring of the woofer, and it has fuses instead of the switches. All black tweater.

that is the model # for one of the Peerless tweeters. They look like this:
    (not his, for a sample)

I would not think yo need to upgrade them, unless yo have a bad one. The Peerless are reputed to be a great tweeter.

Yes, That is exactly what mine look like. So I guess I have the good ones already. No need to look into an upgrade. Thank you for posting the pic KCOC321. I could not get my pics to upload.

Still worth rebuilding the crossovers with some nicer pieces. :D

I read about that this morning. I am going to let that go for now as I am trying to save for a center chanel speaker for my LSI 15's. I am using the 5's for a bedroom speaker right now and they do sound pretty good. I just thought that if they needed it, this would be a simple and fairly inexpensive upgrade.
    Thanks, Maurice

    I have a CS350 that I'll part with. :) It should be a good match I believe.

Upgrading the Monitor 5's crossovers will just be the icing on the cake.

Here's a good link for you.
