Velodyne SPL Series II

Any comments on this sub? I will be using it for home theatre only. I got it at a super low price, and figured for a 1000 watt sub with the Velodyne name it has to be quite good. Here's what I'd lvoe to know:

-Anyone experience this amp for HT or music and how it performed?

- Here is a link to the back of it: http://www.therastrat.us/audio/amps/SPL12BGII-outside.jpg I have no idea what the phase button, where to set the crossover, etc. I have an HK AVR354, and will rerun the audio setup with mic in a day or two. How should i set all of the switches?

- I don't believe I know if it's the SPL 800, SPL 1000 and there is no writing about it on the back. I bought it used, and he didn't have any paperwork on them. I know nothing about the specs of this thing other than it is a 1000 watt amp. I'd love to find out how low it can go, etc. Is there a way to find out if it's an 800, 1000, 1500, etc. They are all supposed to be small like mine is, so not sure how to tell. If you know the specs offhand, that would be great.

-General comments, etc.

Thanks much!

James

I have a Velodyne spl 1500r and it sounds great with both music and HT. Just turn up the subs volume a few clicks when watching a movie otherwise it works very nice with my Mirages for music...

I run the SPL 1200. Great value sub with great customer service. Can't go wrong with it. Great for HT and even better with Music.
Do you hear that buzzing noise?

I don't own a Velodyne but I've heard any number of them and IMO you can't go wrong with one of the better models....that's what they do! They make SUBS!

Thanks for the info so far. I have no idea what the 'Internal X-Over v. Subwoofer Direct' or the 'Phase 0 v. 180' means. What should I set those at? Also, I'm guessing the best bet before rerunning the audessey setup on the AVR to set the volume in the middle? Lastly...If I set the crossovers in my AVR to 80hz, does it matter what the subwoofer is set to? Should I just move the switch to 120hz?

Phase 0/180 dicates the phase of the subwoofer. Just see which sounds better to you. I would guess 0.

If you're setting the filter in your AVR, then i imagine you'd set the sub to wubwoofer direct.

And yes to volume in the middle. :)

Always check the original manuf website...they usually have a link for discontinued products. Here's the link to Velodyne's discontinued product line on your sub series. http://www.velodyne.com/products/brochures/spl%20series%20II.pdf

I'm running dual SPL-1200R's & they are fantastic for both HT & 2 channel. I'm sure you'll be very pleased with your new sub.
