Anyone plan on picking this one up? 256 players in 1 giant battle sounds crazy appealing, but so did the lag fest that was Planetside years ago. I think Tribes was the last decent "big" FPS.
So is anyone going to hop on this one? I like the way they break things down to the squad level, platoon, etc. Commanders communicate with platoon commanders, who in turn communicate with company commanders, etc.
All I can think of is Planetside so I'm hesitant but curious...

I played the demo last month and thought it sucked. The problem is it requires communication, and consoles aren't the best place to find that. It was one giant clusterfuck.
I'd say if you can run with a bunch of friends that this game could have some appeal, but if you are playing solo, or only with a buddy or two, forget it. Not worth it. -
I picked this game up last week and was turned off by it immediately. It starts you out in training mode, which is fine but once you get to the action it seems like snipers are everywhere. Not only that but once you do find someone thats not a sniper it seems they are alot better at aiming than you are and even if you do pump them full of lead they don't seem to die. I was dying at a rate of once every 10 seconds, which was extremely frustrating. I can't see playing this game for very long. Maybe thats just me, but it seems the people who've been playing the beta have a huge advantage over the rest of us who didn't take the time to download it and master the game before its release. Maybe my opinion will change over time, but its hard to spend much time with a game that pisses you off so much, expecially in the beginning. But if you are up for a challenge then by all means have a go at it. It just wasn't for me, i'd rather play games like warhawk online, even though the planes seem to dominate that game these days.

I bought this last Friday, played for 20 minutes and immediately remembered why I wasn't going to buy it in the first place. Luckily, I bought it off Craigslist for $40, and sold it the next day for $35.
It might as well be called Track and Field. All you do is die, spawn a mile away, run back and die, and then rinse and repeat.
Try the Battlefield Bad Company 2 demo. It comes out today. -
Thanks for the solid, honest input all. This gets the big sidestep from me. Sorry for those that took the plunge with their wallets2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

Well someone has to. It seems the only ones posting most of the time are people who love the game they are talking about. I have no problems disliking something. I'm a big FPS fan and have been since the genre came to be with wolfenstein 3d for the pc (in dos), so for me it a good FPS experience is something i take seriously. With that being said the BF2 demo for the ps3 was pretty decent, i have it preordered on amazon as of this morning. I'll play the demo abit more tonight when i get a chance. COD:MW2 is a great game, although i haven't played it online, the first one i had for 360 and the online was a horrible experience for me, but the single player campain was alot of fun. Its weird that on alot of FPS games these days the single player campaign is fun for me but the online multiplayer experience is annoying to say the least. I'm going to buy the first battlefield bad company today at walmart, its going for $20 in the discount bin. I've been buying alot of discount bin games lately and finding some great deals on games that are well worth the full asking price. I bought Dirt 2 and Grid just a couple weeks ago and have been playing those alot, both were discount bin items. And i just finished Saints Row 2 last night, its also well worth playing and is available for cheap.

Well I think 1 thing you'd like about MW2 is the coop option now. You can run the missions by yourself (except for a handful), with a friend on split screen, or online. And I like the variety in the coop missions. In one, 1 person is on foot trying to get to point X, while the other person is in the spooky raining hell from above Fun mission to run with a friend over and over.
Agreed on BF2, I am curious. Bad Company was a blast, and I loved the destructable environment. Row of trees in your way? Get on the .50 and mow those **** down Guy hiding in a house? Blow up the corner of the house with a MK 19 or a tank and he's exposed. very cool, and I hope BF2 takes that to the next level...
And in general, unless I am playing with friends, or what sounds like a mature group, I mute literally everyone. Makes the game much more enjoyable.2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

BC2, not BF2. Battlefield 2 is a great but an old game (2005) that came out before Battlefield Bad Company. Judging from the Bad Company 2 BETA there will be many that will be waiting for Battlefield 3 which will hopefully be PC exclusive. Not holding my breath on that one but one can hope. BC2 still seems to be a very good game, just not what BF2 fans would have hoped. -

Doh, typo on my part. I enjoyed BC 1, but after trying the demo last night, I'm not sure if I'm going to dig it...2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ

I've been playing the BC2 BETA for a few days now. Very demanding from the CPU but it's a BETA. I doubt I will go back to MW2 anytime soon, that game was a huge disappointment.
If you want something realistic, check out ARMA 2. It's not for those who want COD style play but if you enjoyed America's Army back in the day, this game is for you. -
Cool, thanks for the suggestion Sami.
I actually used to dig WW2 online most of all. Graphics were horrendous, but it was and is the only massive FPS I've ever seen pulled off 1/2 way well. Fighters, bombers, tanks, troop vehicles, the whole 9 yards. And everyone played on one giant map of Europe, so you may have to get a tank from another town and drive 20 minutes into battle. Nothing like a squad of 10 tanks rolling into a town wreaking havoc, and everyone communicating via voice. That was definitely a take your time and creep game though; no spastic MW2 style of play...2007 Club Polk Football Pool Champ
