One of my all time favorite songs. I was a bit surprise when I finally read the lyrics after all these years. Go grab the whips and chains before continuing.

Sarah Brightman - Once in a Lifetime from the 1993 Dive Album

It's not too bad. But I agree, sometimes the words to a song you like can be very....."surprising".

I'm not surprised by the S&M references.

To the OP: check out Sarah Brightman's "Harem" DVD and the Eden video collection.

Those lyrics are cool I think! I always like to read the lyrics of all the songs I listen to and often find my own meanings in them.

The Brightman version is a remake, altered, of the original same titled song by Gregorian (sounds like a precursor to Enigma) off the 1991 Sadisfaction CD. The lyrics are tame. There is a CD single of the song with a faster tempo Extended Version and L.A. Mix that I highly enjoy (heard them on Youtube). That single, if you can find it, goes for 300 euros. There were some cheaper version on ebay but they looked like somebody made a CD-R.

Yes, Gregorian later became the same Gregorian Master of Chant although I think the members changed.

I own the Eden concert and love it but have not seen Harem. I was at the La Luna concert in Dallas sitting in the middle about 13 rows back and would love to see her perform live again.

I don't shock easily, so, in answer to the OP, no. That said, I am still wondering what the song Ride Captain Ride by Blues Image was really about. There was another pop song, Timothy, about a bunch of trapped miners who survive by eating their buddy. They don't write 'em like that anymore.

I rarely 'hear' lyrics...and cannot remember the complete lyrics to even ONE song. But I can remember the music to every song I've ever heard and identify it instantly.....Lyrics have always been secondary for me because I only listen to them long after I've gotten into the melody or tune.

Also, I'm rarely shocked by anything! a dozen years or so in Manhattan will do that to you!!

Start Me Up by the Stones. I did not "hear" it until I listened to the live version. The end of the song fades and is hard to hear ...

You make a grown man cry
Ride like the wind at double speed
I'll take you places that you've never, never seen
    Start it up
Love the day when we will never stop, never stop
    Never stop, never stop
    Tough me up
Never stop, never stop, never stop

You, you, you make a grown man cry
You, you make a dead man ****
You, you make a dead man ****

Dang - I could tell she was hot from the first part of the song but that is some serious talent!

I was suprised to discover that Iggy's Pop's song "**** in my Pocket" on the Metallic K.O. album was (if you listen very closely) in fact, about a **** in his pocket. Talk about subtle.

I still remember sometime in fifth grade after sex education class every Led Zeppelin song I had ever listened to practically took on a whole other dimension of meaning:

Excerpt from the Lemon Song (excuse me if the lyrics are off a little . . . typing from memory)

"Went to sleep last night, worked as hard as I can,
Bring home my money, you take my money, give it to another man.
I should have quit you, baby, such a long time ago.
I wouldn't be here with all my troubles, down on this killing floor.

Squeeze me baby, till the juice runs down my leg.
The way you squeeze my lemon, I'm gonna fall right out of bed.

I'm gonna leave my children down on this killing floor."

After hearing this song as a ten year old in Catholic school and understanding its real meaning, I felt dirty. Haha, that of course has worn off now.

    Cool thread.
