micropro

Hi! I mainly hang out in the car forum, but I would like to venture into home theater as well.

I was wondering which would go better in my 12x10 room, micropro 2000 or 4000. From what I gathered, the 4000 would be overkill for the size of my room. But I'm currently running a polk sr1240 (12") @ 740 rms in an even smaller enclosed space, my truck haha. However, I wish it would go a tad heavier; I love bass hehe! And I will be pairing the sub with lsi9.

any other recommendation sandworms? The one you offer isn't aesthetically appealing and seem a bit too big. This will be in my bed room, and will be primarily for music, roughly 99% music, and 1% youtube/hulu.

How do I find Polk Direct?
Is it a portion of E Bay?
I went to E Bay and the 3000 goes for about $830!

The 4000 will definitely shake your walls in such a tight space. I use it for my huge living room. My bedroom is 17x13 and is equipped with the 1000, plenty enough bass with a good AVR.

If it's just music, even a MP1k would work for ya... If you can afford it though, I would definitely look at the MP3k and MP4k. Those are some bad **** subs for their size, and they are awesome for music. They are very tight and detailed, which will be perfect for music. If you get one, then you may not like the sub in your truck anymore once you hear the good musical bass from a micropro! It's hard to get that kind of bass in a vehicle. Good luck:)

I'm pretty sure you are spot on about the car sub vs home sub. And I know that the mp line is top notch stuff, since the sub I'm running in my truck is built around the dsw line ;P

I think I will spring for the 4000 in a week's time, I'm not dead set on the polk line. So I'm willing to hear about other type of subs that are out there. My budget is around $1200, but I don't want to spend anymore than 1700 for a sub. A sealed 12 is what I'm after, anything bigger will take up too much room.

Your room is 10 x 12 and you're going to put a Micropro 4000 in there? Do you really need anything more than a 2 or 3000? I doubt it. A sealed 10" will do fine in that room and save you some cash!

A Micropro 4000 would be a perfect fit in your 10x12 room. It's no SPL king but it hits hard and goes low. It's great for both HT and music.

I don't know about you BASS guys! I run a 300 watt RMS 12" 25hz (+/-3db) sub/ 600 watt dynamic peak in a larger room than that and it shakes the walls and floor on the second storey....my HT room 11.5 x 25 x 8.5 (usable HT space=11.5 x 16.5 x 8.5) is on the first floor!

Is your sub ported? Alot of people look at the specs and see 1200 watts and assume it plays very loud and over powers small rooms but it doesn't. It's sealed and very small that's the reason for the 1200 watt amp plate. The slot ported DSW 600 sub only has a 250 watt continues amp plate and it plays louder than the 4000 which has a 1200 watt amp plate.

    Gotcha Leroy..

Yeah...my sub is ported--it puts out much like the DSW600. A 1200 watt sub would be about twice as loud as a 120 watt using the 10x rule of doubling (assuming a similar cabinet size and driver) which is, of course, why all that power is used in smaller sized subs.
