I am going to look at/ buy some black finish monitor 70s in a few hours. They are used and the guy said they are about 3 years old and in great shape except for a small white mark on the side of one from moving. I got the price down to $230 for the pair. I almost want to wait and buy them new at $320 for a pair just to get the 5 year warranty and have new speakers. What do you guys think? Please respond soon i am leaving for them in 2 hours.

Well, I picked up a Pair of Rti8's for $250 and the same seller had another pair that he sold for $200 for the pair. In my opinion, $230 is a bit high for a pair of Monitor 70s' when you could step up to the Rti line for about the same money.

Right now cheapest (newegg) is $460/pair. So this is half. If you wait for a deal, you may will get it around $320-$400, depending on discount. NewEgg had given a $20 discount / speaker when M70 were $180. Now their price has goone up to $230/speaker!

I dont think its a great deal, but its not bad. And its still under warranty.

Not a horrible deal, but if the warranty is important to you I would pass. Polk stands by their stuff, but nothing like having a "guarentee" that you are covered. I love my 70's and I got them as a package deal with my CS2 and PSW125 from CC for just under $1,000, w/ 10 year warranty on all speakers. Worth every penny.

Just as a note here...has anyone actually heard a pair of Rti-8s next to M70s..because I have and I do not consider that a 'step' up? Don't mean to be a contrarian but when it comes to music let's see the 8s outperform a set of M70s? I haven't seen that yet!

HT...OK they're loud they're BRIGHT, they're 'detailed'...they don't have the full range of M70s and do not 'image' as well in 2 channel...

You like RTIs? Do yourself a favor and get some real ones...Rti-12s or Rti-A9s...if you want to really 'step up'?

I'm not trying to thread crap, but that statement is a bit f'ed up to any Rti10/8/6/4 owners. I'm sorry if I didn't buy "real" Rti speakers. They look awfully real to me.

Lol, it wasn't meant that way man. It's like saying "Get some real SDAs, 1.2TLs!!!!" The 1C owners aren't going to have a problem with that.

There's nothing wrong with the other RTi series, but the RTi12s ARE a different ball game. ;)

Ok, I can understand that. Sorry, guess I jumped the gun. It did read that way though.

If the OP is looking at monitor 70's though, I doubt he had the power to drive a set of Rti12's.

I have an older 100wpc onkyo amp and will be upgrading to a denon avr790 or something of that level amp as soon as i find a good deal. So what i am thinking now is that i want the rti-a5s. Beautiful speakers and have great detail. I already have 2 velodyne dps-10 subwoofers so i am pretty well covered on the LFE. Where can i get some rti-a5s for cheap? The guy with the rti10s would only go to $375 and he is an hours drive away so i am passing on those.

Concealer is right..I was not crapping on your 10s...just saying IMO the M70s can stand toe-to-toe with Rti-8s and take them in 2 channel music! Because the 8s are 'entry level...and the M70s are the top tier of the level below the Rtis...it makes sense that the BEST Ms would not be that much worse than the lowest Rtis.

Also, I should clarify..I, personally, don't like the RTi tweeter that much...it's too forward. And I only find it 'less' forward in the Rti-12, Rti-A9s which, to me are the most 'musical' of the Rtis as a result of the D'apolito arrays, cascade crossovers, etc. This tames the Rti tweeter and makes it more pleasant on 2 channel music.

There is NO doubt that the 10s/A7s are a better HT speaker than any M series.

A lot of this is subjective. I have also stated that the redo for the TSI series is primarily a HT redo...so as to make these lower models more like Rtis?

That and nothing more....sorry...if more was read into this..
