I listed an item on eBay and selected that I would ship to the US, Canada, Australia and "Europe" never thinking "Europe" would mean Russia.

The highest bidder (with 83 buys/sells and 100% positive feedback) is located as follows:

Udomlya, 171841
Russian
Federation

Has anyone here braved shipping to Russia?

    Forget it.
You gotta be able to find a buyer somewhere else in this small world.

Local or US would be not problem, but I did evidently agree to ship to Russia in the auction posting because I was not paying attention when I selected the "Ship To" check boxes

I spoke to a friend of mind who has shipped many items (he manufacturers conductor's batons) to Russia with 100% success, although he is possibly attracting a different demographic.

I have mixed feeling, but am investigating the buyer further before deciding no sale.

I specifically noted in my auction that foreign buyers must provide a "PayPal Confirmed" Shipping Address. and then emailed him before invoicing asking if he had a "PayPal Confirmed" Shipping Address.

He responded, "Yes, I have been asked this many times." so I sent an invoice.

The shipping address came back as "Unconfirmed" so I voided the sale and sent out a second chance offer to the second and third bidder.

I could have taken it across the border for you from China a couple of days ago...we were in Heilongjiang province which borders on Siberia? Needless to say there were, in fact, a few Russian Mafia types around--no kidding? Definitely 'seedy' fellows!

Well, the plot thickens. I specifically stated that I must be provided with a PayPal "Confirmed Shipping Address" and the The Russian buyer provided an unconfirmed address so I canceled the sale.

I put out a second chance offer and the second place bidder purchased it, but HE IS IN TAIWAN.

I've emailed the second buyer to learn if he has a confirmed address, but now I'm wondering if it is safe to ship to Taiwan.

How do you get scammed if they pay ahead of time with Paypal?

Isn't the worst that can happen they say it never showed up (even though it did) and try to fight you for a refund or something?

I would just say "I am happy to ship and provide tracking information as soon as it goes out. However, due to customs and other possible delivery issues, I can not guarantee when or if it will arrive safely at your address."

This is what I've told people when I ship things to Canada and such. It's always a beating so I let them know upfront (usually before they even pay) that I will send but can not guarantee anything after it leaves the states.

    Good luck!

I have shipped with to Canada and Mexico with no issues. My first and last experience beyond that was China. Long story short, the item (speakers) was opened at customs and not packed correctly, resulting in heavy damage. After that, I think I will stick to US and Canada.

Where in Taiwan is he? I'll be in Taipei, Taiwan (the capital) for about a week around Feb 6th? If I had time I could call or meet the fellow--if he's in the main city?

Thanks, a very cool offer, but not necessary. It must be exciting to travel around over there.

This one was a high volume buyer with a 100% rating AND a CONFIRMED shipping address in Taipei, Taiwan, so I am shipping today.

I'll post how it turns out in a couple weeks.
