picked up a pair of minty Monitor 7C's

Greetings,

Craigslist was good to me. A pair of minty Monitor 7C's, complete with shipping boxes, warranty card, and manual. For $80.

Lovely speaker. This is only the third pair of manufactured speakers over the decades. Having DIY'ed most everything over the years I've gone though about a dozen pairs of speakers and rarely ever made any purchases. So these sit along side Magnepan and JM Labs as the only speakers I ever purchased already built.

When I was a kid and everyone was lusting for some awesome Cerwin Vega LOUD speakers or Klipsch's, I was dreaming of owning a pair of the original 7's with the peerless tweeters (the ones with the holes poked in the domes :) )

Anyway.. Before I open them up I am hoping to maybe get a copy of the x-over schematic so I can pre-order some parts for upgrades. I'd also like to know how engineered the x-overs were.. Did Mathew take into consideration the DCR of the coils? Stuff like that. Thanks in advance for any help here.

I'd also like to entertain some stand ideas. I'm thinking about 12" would do it but if anyone has any height recommendations before I start cutting wood. What about angle? I remember seeing the original 7's on stands that tilted them back a shade.

Thanks for the forum. I've always been a fan of the old school Polk Speakers.

    Lazy, guilty! :D

I pulled one of the x-overs out for a quick look-see and I believe I have the revised versions as I spotted what appears to be the safeguard on the tweeter. My eyes are giving out so I need to bench these to get a better light on them.

Well, that is an unfortunate problem. I had to make an emergency move last summer and some issues occured. If I hadn't had such a loss I wouldn't have been looking in craigslist for something to fill the void. I lost everything except a little bit of test equipment and an old pair of Allison tweeters. Speakers only, never DIY'ed electronics.

My previous pair of speakers were Rick Craig designed "STS" speakers. (S)Scan (T)The (S)Seas.. A two way with a pair of Seas Excel T25-001 soft domes (before they quit using silver wire for the vc) and a pair of ScanSpeak 18w-8545 woofers.

My DIY stuff was really never picture worthy though. Once I got things built up sound wise, I usually stopped due to lazyness. Other than a pair of subwoofers many years ago, I never fully finished a pair of speakers. :D

I have some pictures though, somewhere, but they needs scanned.. someday.

    Thanks again.
