dvd no audio output w/stereo

Ok, here is the problem.
I can't get the sound from dvd player to come through stereo.
Details:
I have DirecTv. I have my tv hooked up to the sat receiver, obviously. I ran audio outs from the tv to the sat receiver audio ins. I ran audio outs from the receiver to the aux input on the pre-amp. So far, so good. I can run the tv through its own speakers or through the Adcoms and out of the Polks. There is another set of av inputs on back of tv, so I ran the dvd outs into the tv ins.
This is where the problem comes in. I can watch tv and pump the sound through the Adcoms and Polks. But, when I turn on the dvd player, I can't get the sound to come through the stereo. If I turn the stereo on with a dvd, the sound that comes through stereo is that of the channel that the tv was last on when I pushed the tv input button. As long as I use the tv speakers, all is good.
At first I thought I just needed to shut off the power to the sat receiver, but that did not work either.

Without knowing what units you have, I am assuming your tv has multiple inputs.
just run coax-digital from the DVD to the AVR > Preamp-dvd input > amp > Polks
DVD HDMI(or whatever the best video output/ input you have) > tv
Same setup for Sat receiver.
Use the different inputs selections on the tv to select source, turn down volume on tv speakers when listening thru Polk speakers via AVR ect. When just tv speakers, turn off AVR. Done deal.
There isn't really any reason to run it back from the TV, if you are already running it from the sourse to the AVR. -
Ok...I guess I made a little mistake...the audio out from the tv is not going back to sat receiver.
Audio out from sat rec. is going to pre-amp aux input. This lets me use tv through amps or through tv speakers etc...
The dvd is going into tv. All 3...2 audio and one video.
I could just hook the dvd into pre-amp, but the wife doesn't like messing with the stereo stuff. I want it so she can listen through tv speakers, yet be able to turn on amps if wanted.
I have been through the tv menu a dozen times and I can find no way to switch audio inputs. I think I am just going to have to wait until I move the stereo stuff to the other room and hook the Yamaha rx-v665 up for her.

Tim, it would be really useful to know what receiver, TV & DVD you have.
Since you said "one video" I then can guess that it is only composit video, hence no HDMI....
Have you tried hooking the Audio and video cables to the receiver, and then from the receiver output to the TV? It may have 'passthough' even when off.
Sucks that you can't find the input switch. It does have multiple Video & Audio inputs, right?
